1968 c30 "Papa Smurf" prerunner build. links, beams, and turbo

And Nate didn't mention he's got access to laser cutting stuff so things he doesn't want to cut he doesn't have to..

Plasma cut stuff is a massive time saver..

Hmmmm thats news to me. I didnt know i had a laser.

Like i said everything i have done has been cut with a cut off wheel.

I'm glad you finally let the cat out of the bag. I wanted for so long to comment in the oprah thread.

I thought you had the shop at work to use? I know you cut all this by hand..

Nate, I'm wondering about the way the truss is on the axle.....seems that truss mounting is best for drag race applications and top mounted trussing is better for jumping type applications. Thoughts?

For off-road the backbone style is more common because it sacrifices the ground clearance less and still provides strength against jumps, the real issue is they bend rearward from the impacts.. Big power also can do that..

I've wondered some myself on this. All the research I did I saw a big mix of differenet variations. Some guys only running the backbone style and others adding top side truss work with the backbone. I opted to add to the top 1.) because I needed to build link mounts anyways 2.) Im a little leary of just running a back boke truss. My top truss has dom tube hidden underneath the plate you cant see and I only extended it just past the last factory weld on the outer tubes.

Id be very curious to see some sort of actual controled test results of a 9" in factory form, with a backbone truss, and with a backbone and an upper truss. To see what kind of forces each could hold up to.

I'm sure the rear truss has been tested by Strange/Currie and other 9" builders, just curious about it. Nice touch with the hidden DOM!

I think the axle will be good.

I might have carried the link truss out further just cause I could. You still could and make it look good.

Overall I think that will do a decent job of lasting

1. Doesn't look like the glass fenders fit great, are they just sitting for mock up? Will they end up fitting better?
2. If your keeping the patina on the truck, it will be cool to paint the fenders to match and airbrush some patina back on.
3. What's you plan for the back? Bedside skins? Or nothing at all?
4. how much tube work do you have left to do?

Like the post says its just sitting on the truck. Its not in place. Alot more tube bracing needs to go in yet this is just the main structure currently. Eventually ill get bedisdes for it but not my first concern about the truck.

And sorry dave but there will be some fo-tina going on with the fiberglass fenders. I want it all to match
