1969 C10

Slow process of putting it back together.
So, to update. Instead of getting another Chevy with no AC, I've decided to utilize some $$ and get the AC going in the C10.. it gets pretty miserable out here in AZ in summer months. hell, even the heat makes driving my rav4 kind of shittty.

I'm going to have the stock system used and get that going. I took the advice of some members here and left it in, instead of doing the vintage air/old air products

Are you looking at one of the update kits that someone posted?
I can't remember what company it was.

Well, the shop that did wiring has plans for it. Essentially, that's what it will be.

I talked to them yesterday over the phone, crazy I know. But yeah, it won't be for a bit as they are booked pretty solid.

I think it is money well spent. Make sure to ask them about compressor options. The original A6 are all rebuilt 4 to 10 times now.
If you don't have all the brackets for original a6, short water pump, ram horn, are not easy to find. You'll need custom so MAW get a good compressor to match.

Got to have good A/C in Phoenix

Well, this engine has a long water pump and ram horns. I tried the short pump and didn't fit/work, the "ears" didn't reach the block because of the timing chain cover.

We'll see what happens. I have the original bracket but not sure how or if it will work. But I'm sure we'll figure something out.

Yeah, not having AC is a bit ridiculous. It makes the vehicles almost useless. Down the road I'm going to get it back in the blazer. Since that truck had all the components removed. Vintage air is probably my only option.

Wow ok, that is a difficult accomplishment, long water pump with short pump pulleys. I didn't notice when I was looking at in person. So did you use a new long pump dampener too ?

Keep them brackets together you should be able to get a nice $$ for a complete set of passenger side ac brackets.

I have no idea what dampener i think an 8" one. The alternator bracket is ICT and the PS bracket was stock. As the ICT bracket I bought I could not use because I couldn't get the nut off the back of the PS pump. The engine is not original. Some hencho in Mexico 350

that is why the p/s needed a little shimming
Yes, precisely. It's still a tiny tiny smidge off. But I'll fix that when the AC gets in.

I tried every tool I had but had to stop in fear of rounding it off. Nothing would get it loose. A vice may have helped But I don't have one.

Ok rigged a little make-shift "safety" for my hood. I'm pretty positive when it popped open the other day I just didn't have it closed properly. But I can't shake the feeling of "what if I did have it closed and it opened"

I tried pulling as hard as I could this morning and it would not open.

Anyway kind of cheesy and not really "show" worthy but.. who cares what piece of mind looks like?

Was also thinking of getting 2ft of chain and running it through those holes by the hood pin and connecting a bungee to that but.

When I open the hood with the bungees connected, it catches and if you try to simulate wind pushing open the hood, it still keeps it low enough to see and pull over.

better than a bent hood and smashed windshield!

That bungee cords was a little to rag-tag. Went to Home Depot and got some chain and a little clip.

Holds more firm (obviously) than a bungee.

What’s wrong with the hood catch?
Nothing now.

A few weeks ago I went for a drive in the early AM. The same route I always drive. I went over a slight bump, same one I always go over. Then the hood flew open. Thankfully, it didn't bend or hit the windshield. It had never done this before.

So, I came home a found the rivets in the hood hinges were toast. Replaced those re-shimmed the hood and everything else. It locks now and both of the hood pin and latch, lock. The secondary latch was barely catching the hood when I examined it. Chalked that up to the shimming of the hood pin and the latch.

Now after installing new hood hinges and re-shimming, I tried to pull it open and it won't budge. I sent @Wes Harden
video to confirm.

I put the chain on there because it makes me paranoid to drive it and that the hood will fly open again. Everything up there is new, the only conclusion I have come to is that for whatever reason, I didn't have the hood closed properly or the pin engaged.

So, while lame in appearance and unsightly, also making the hood opening have one more step. I have this chain to hopefully prevent this from happening again and give me piece of mind while driving.
