1973 K10 : Chloe

1973 K10 offroad build
Never let anyone tell you you can't, or shouldn't.
I bought this 8.1 as a basket case from a very nice gentleman from the Syndicate(SLC arm of CK5) it was great deal, no complaints.
It came basically as a long block with no accessories.
Now that I'm an elderly POS, I demand functioning AC. AC bracket for said engine just plain are not available. I scrounge together what I could get. LH power steering/alternator bracket. The only AC bracket available was one from Kodiak truck. So I bought it, hoping it was the unicorn RH bracket. It wasnt.
I bit the bullet, and chopped it up, saving only the AC part of it.
Welded metal to it to give it 4 bolt down places.
All was well until I had to figure out the belt tensioner.
I ordered a new tensioner and proceeded to weld a mount for it, welding it to the bracket that I cut up and welded back together. All is well. It looks like it'll work, all lined up and straight. Tha aftermarket bracket guy wanted $800 for the complete assembly. It was cool, but, cash in my pocket is even cooler. Back to my regularly scheduled mayhem.

Me thinks the oil put in these AC compressors for shipping has found its way into the bores of the compressor. I cannot turn it by hand.
Time to take it off, turn it upside down and drain that shit out. Thing was almost $200. Be a shame to explode it the first time it engaged.

Always drain the oil from a new or rebuilt compressor, never know if the oil monkey put to much or to little.

Like Wes, said. Always check to see if all the oil is drained from your AC compressor.
I just took mine off, it had over 1.5 cups of oil in it, brand new out of the box, completely hydro-locked. I held it over the drain bucket, and turned the clutch assembly with a 1/4 drive ratchet and 10 mm socket. At first it wouldn't turn until I turned it upside down and let the oil pour out for about 20 seconds, then it turned and puked out almost an equal amount at speed. That would have exploded had I started the engine forcing it to turn.
Thanks @Wes Harden :saweet:

You'll want to added the correct amount and type, for that compressor before you button her up. 2-3oz normally 2oz in accumulator and 1-2 in the condenser 1oz in evap. that is if everything is flushed and air dried.

I put Dead pool back to work today! Had him trim the converter cover, helped me measure the mount for the Hydraulic pump to get it mounted up, then made him get the core support mounts installed

So, I mentioned the other day in a different post that I got the upgrades done to my Rogue Fabrication tube bender.
Well, Cherry popped!
I went out and bent my first ever bends with it.
1.5 inch x .250 wall DOM. I was a bit taken back by how easily this stuff bent with this bender.
I had to do a bit burning the sawdust upstairs, as I didn't want any tube going straight away to the scrap bin because of incorrect bends. I've watched a few other brands of benders bend .250 wall material, all atleast slowed a bit, not this one.
I'm building the transmission/transfercases cross-member.
After measuring several times, in mapping it out on the tube. I threw the tube in there and went to town. For some reason, I expected the bender to struggle with this .250 wall stuff. It didn't even slow down. I was sure to give the tube where it came into contact with the pressure dies a squirt of the WD40 I stole from wifey.(I have numerous cans of PB blaster stashed all over the garage)
Like I said, I was abit surprised by how easily this tube bent, on the this bender. More pics to follow...

The one you still have to make for it
:thinking::thinking::thinking::thinking:
Wasn't aware I needed one past this point. Really, it would just be additional weight.
I hadn't given it alot of thought. Just happy to have something that will hold up the Transfercases, and is made heavy enough to take a bit of abuse.
