Installed the new Cloyes Timing chain. A dab of red loctite in the cam gear bolts, just for piece of mind.
Then spent a couple of hours re-tapping almost every threaded hole on the outside of the engine. Just to make sure I didn’t have any trouble mounting anything.
While doing that, I broke out the MAP gas torch and PB Blaster, went to town removing rusted exhaust studs. I got almost every one out in one piece. Only had 1 that broke. It left about 3/8ths inch stub sticking out.
I went to work with the map gas and a pair of vice-grips. It finally gave up and came out too.
Also, had to heat up a threaded in plug on each cylinder head to get them out, so, I could install my temperature sensors, one for the dash gauge, on the right head, and the Coolant Temp Sensor in the left head. I’m glad I did those with the engine out of the truck.
They both put up a good fight.
Installed new Cam and Crank Position Sensors. Just cuz! Then the new fitting for the manual oil gauge. Because a real oil pressure reading makes me happy.
