1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
I couldn’t find any bumper brackets for the rear bumper so I bought them from ecklers with some other needed parts including new bumper bolts. I noticed the brackets are 73-80 and 81-87 for trucks so I bought the earlier. Turns out my bumper is from a later model truck (possibly a burb or K5) so the brackets wouldn’t work. Yesterday I was able to source a used bumper with brackets. Not the straightest bumper but it cleaned up pretty well. I also blasted and painted the center section that holds the license plate.

You can see the contour of the bracket is different at the bumper.

Wired the autometer gauge lights along with the tach light so they illuminate with the parking lights.

Next up was the door pins which were pretty well shot, both doors sag pretty good. The passenger also makes a clunk noise and it leaks a little on top. I want to make sure this truck is water tight before I finish the floor and add new carpet.

I’ve done the door pins several times before and I’m always taking my tube doors on and off the other truck so this was a familiar process.

drivers door off, cut the pins, remove plastic bushings, clean and reassemble with brass bushings and new pins.

After finishing the drivers door I found rot and the door clunk I’ve been hearing.

It was getting close to dark and rain was expected so I packed up for the night. Sometime this week I’ll take the door off and I’ll likely need to cut and weld in some patches. Fun.

Looks like the old bumper is off a suburban to me. I had one on one of my old trucks, they wrap around the body a bit more like that one pictured on top.

yeah I think so. I also see a stud on the bumper bracket, possibly for the tailgate spring? Either way, it’s a bigger bumper and this one fits better.
 
I concur on the bumper. I've got one if those I need to get installed on the C10
 
Last few weeks I've been tinkering with the truck in effort to knockout the last few (major) items so I can drive the truck (legally) on the street.

The new bell housing cover that I bought several months back was installed and removed shortly thereafter because it's rubbing the flywheel or the crank. A little love from the flap wheel should fix it, just frustrating dealing with some of the chinese crap from these companies.

The floor had some surface rust so I wire wheeled those areas and brushed some primer down for rust prevention. New door seals and a strikers were also installed along with the manual transmission hump utilizing nutserts.

and I have a working dome light now. PO had the wrong bulb installed so it kept shorting out the circuit :doah:

Earlier mentioned the rot and cracks on the passenger door that needed to be fixed. I knew it would need to be patched and I really didn't want to do all that work without some type of colored matched paint so I bought a can of Spanish Gold along with a can of clear coat. About a week and a half later I received the product so I removed the door and started surgery.

New pins, bushings, door rubber and striker. I ended up removing the hinges from the cab so I can open up the hinge bolts holes for additional adjustment. Door fits nice and tight now. Cosmetically it's not perfect, but it's functional.

Looks good, I just ordered some paint from the same place, glad to hear it's good too!

Really easy to spray out with a few light base coats and it dried really quick. The clear was easy too, laid out 4 coats with 15 minutes between coats. For someone like myself, without any paint experience, I found it very easy to use.

@skunked do you just ask for baby shit yellow when ordering that paint! :haha:

I only use union crews for work so I have respect for those trades including the union sparkies.

and it's Spanish Gold dammit! :rotfl:
 
Are you going to spray some of the Spanish Gold over the floors? I was told primer doesn't work well as a moisture barrier.

First I've heard that but I don't deal with rust much.

I bought some oil base black paint to lay down but I figured it wouldn't be worth the time if I covered it with dynomat later. The primer I used was some heavy duty oil based stuff in can that I used on another project years ago. I should probably look into that some more.

I was told that specifically in reference to automotive primers for the exterior. Probably not as big of a deal on the interior, but I was thinking if you're going to cover it with something it might be a good idea to paint over the primer. Otherwise the floor cover could hold moisture in and the primer wouldn't hold up. Although dynamat might be a good barrier.
