1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
I have been told by my glass guy that he won’t install one unless it’s a gm seal. Which is not happening.
How do you feel like the quality of the precision seal compares to oem?
Gm seals are not available or to highly priced?

Interesting, the last time I had a squarebody windshield replaced was when I first bought the crew cab 11 years ago. It wasn't a problem getting a glass shop to replace it, but it sounds like maybe it will be harder to find one for the C10 now? I tried doing one myself and failed, so I'm not eager to repeat that experience.

GM NOS parts are out there but hard to find on demand. However, the newest one I bet you find was manufactured over 20 years ago.

Luckily, my glass guy is also a squarebody guy. He is mobile, but CO is a bit out of his normal area.

How did you fail?
They aren't hard. I honestly am confused anyone needs a "glass guy" for these.
Even more confused that the guys saying they have a glass guy are talented wrenches here on the board.

If I buy a new windshield and break it during install, I buy a second new windshield. If the glass guy breaks it, he replaces it at no cost to me. If I install it and it leaks, I redo it on my dime and time. If he installs it, it won't leak. While it is not hard, I've had issues with leaks after install when I've done it in the past so I'm just choosing my battles.

Last one I did I tore the seal trying to get the lock strip in properly. I think I had too much stretch in the lock strip which caused tension in the corner, tearing the seal. Had the next one done by a glass guy. I asked them to get a 2 piece seal, they screwed up somehow and when I picked it up it had a 1 piece seal with terrible gap against the sheet metal in the drivers top corner. The next one was done properly. It didnt really cost much to get the window put in after needing to buy the glass anyway. Never had one installed that was used, always new replacement.

It's easy to crack the glass, I've done it. You need to be patient with it. I was also surprised how easy it is to remove glass on these trucks the first time I pulled one out.

and thanks for the stud info, I purchased some last night.

This…

The one I did cracked. It wasn't a new windshield, but it was an unblemished original. When they did the windshield in the crew cab, I had to take it back twice for leaks.

mucho betta

Hopefully it holds up better than the one I got from Squarebody Syndicate.
