1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
Knock a new 1/2” sleeve in there and be done

Ordered some sleeves from ORD for the 1/2" bolt.

Over the weekend I tore down the front axle, cleaned and painted the axle housing.

Gonna be very purdy! What's the "22" for on the diff cover?

I was wondering the same, perhaps some sort of factory marking? It was under a coat of grime/paint that became visible after the some light scrubbing in the parts washer.

Should work

they should look and work pretty good. I’m a little concerned about the brakes clearing the rims, I should know more about that this weekend.

tomorrow I’m going to run up to WFO and drop off the knuckle for machining.

Factory 1/2 ton stuff should clear a 15 just fine...

Those Hurricanes are deep. But they were likely off of a Chevy

Yeah they’re deep and they were on a C10 for the last 30+ years. They fit over the dust shields and barely clear the tie rod but I haven’t tried with the calipers yet.

The 15x10 wheels I have like that are bolted to a set of factory axles off my '83 Blazer and they clear everything just fine I think. They are just rollers for moving it around though so I haven't looked at it for a while.

Had those wheels on my truck when I bought it. When I tore down my truck I built a shelf in the shed at the farm. Still there to this day. They look to be roughly on the same shape. I'm pretty interested in how you plan to clean them up. Blast and clear coat?

A quick blast in the media cabinet and then spray them with Muratic acid and rinse with water .

I wouldn’t clear coat them it will just flake off and then you will have a mess .

All my western wheels get an occasional acid bath to keep them looking good.

Pic?

Find one of those guys that polishes aluminum on semis and get them polished. I don't like the white look of acid washed aluminum. To me it's a last resort on aluminum that can't be saved by polishing any longer.

I like the white look , besides you are not going to polish these wheels with out lots of sanding it’s a very pourous and rough casting.
