1974 K10 Dirty Sancho

Saved from cruel and unusual punishment
I have a set of those covers on my '70. I painted orange in between the ribs only. But that got removed in the hot tank when the previous cam died.

Mine have an oil filler cap in one cover though...
Yours??
:dunno:

Nice progress!

How much room do you need to make that side fit?
Can’t bend the frame a bit or shave and plate? Or no way your modding the frame?

I need a lot more room, too much IMO to make it work. See pic below and the header needs to drop another 1.5”

these vortecs have the filler integrated into the intake manifold (that’s getting ditched) so I have to figure that out still.

O! Yeah that’s not going to work.

My search for headers is finally over with these jet coated “chevelle” headers. I had to trim the engine mount bracket a little on the drivers side and I had to hit the frame with a flap wheel on the passenger side. They look pretty bad ass :saweet:

I've been making some progress on the truck and parts have been trickling in slowly over the past couple months.

Suspension- The bilstein shocks showed up however I learned I needed some spacers (that I didn't have) too. Also picked up new rear shock studs and braces from ORD. The stainless spacers should be here tomorrow and the suspension should be done with exception of torquing the U bolts and I may need to add a rear shim.
Exhaust- Mufflers and flex couplers arrived so I should have everything I need to fabricate the piping to the mufflers. I may need some additional tubing post muffler once I figure out exit points.
Brake Lines- I nicked the rear brake line when I was massaging the passenger frame rail for header clearance so I picked up a new rear brake line that runs from the proportioning valve to the rear axle. Since I was buying those lines I figured I might as well pickup a pair of front lines that run between the proportioning valve and master cylinder since those lines are hammered on the C10.
Radiator- Ended up with a drop in Aluminum radiator with electric fans that I found on amazon with pretty good reviews. Several user reviews had it mounted in a squarebody and some with the BBC so I went with it.
Power Steering- After a little research I was able to determine that I can use the stock L29 pump and pressure line with an adapter at the squarebody PS box (inverted flare to o-ring). I bought the adapter from CPP, new high pressure line and a new pump so should have everything I need for the power steering.
EFI/Ignition- I posted a pic of the ProFlow EFI and I've since acquired a bunch of little parts including MSD coil, coil mount, Taylor wires, AC Delco plugs, water neck, thermostat, Edelbrock fuel pressure regulator, Summit air cleaner etc. All those parts are on hand and ready to be installed after the engine is buttoned up.
Fuel Lines- The Walboro pump was installed along with the filter using a stainless bracket on the frame rail near the tank. I originally planned on running hardline down the frame rail however I've ditched that idea for 6an line which I'll run down the center of the truck away from the exhaust. With this change I needed more 6an line and some miscellaneous fittings which I purchased through summit so I should have everything I need to complete the fuel system.
Misc- Other parts arrived including new belt idlers, tensioner and a belt. I also scored a transmission hump (sm465/np205), OE front tow hooks and a 1974 Chevrolet owners manual from @Capt Ron
Cam Package- Took about 5-6 weeks however the Comp Cam package has arrived! This has been holding me up more than anything else so I'm glad to finally receive the parts so I can finish the engine for this build.

I started tearing down the drivetrain last night.

Appears to be good timing with the cam & lifter replacement. Just one lobe was like this btw.

The timing gear on the crank was thicker than the OE version. After some quick measurements I figured out the comp cam gear is suppose to take the place of the stock gear and the reluctor wheel. Good thing I don't need the reluctor wheel anymore.

Cam is in with the cam retainer and cam gear torqued with red loctite. Timing is set to zero btw.

Tonight or tomorrow AM I'll install the new springs, valve seals, anti-rotators along with the pushrods and rockers.

So it sounds like you're running an external pump? Why do you need the fuel pressure regulator?

I saw you picture of the parts on the plastic folding table and it made me smile because I was just talking to the wife about needing a table like that to lay things out on for the C10 EFI project.

The ProFlow system does not come regulated therefore a regulator needs to be added. I'm running a in-tank pump.

That little table is handy and was my temporary office table during the covid shutdown.

I kee 3 or 4 of those in the garage. They’re great for camping (which is why we got them) but they’re even better for temporary parts organization during a project
