1976 C-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build

Decided to fab a couple cross members for a 31 gallon tank. To get it out of the way while bed was off. Tank is a TBI. Tank will go in when 496 goes in. I'll just rock the 16 gallon for the rest of the summer.

A few sharp eye stepside lovers would have noticed that the taillights were not correct. In 76 they were round. In 77 they switch to the big square block looking taillights.
This truck had those, which I don't care for. I wanted round lights but I didn't care for the factory ones. So I ordered a set of stainless 54-59 Chevy truck lights and mounted them using a factory replacement stainless bracket from LMC. These are also LED's.
Mounted them a bit lower then factory.

No kit , stainless non polished strips and hardware from LMC.

The wood is beetle kill Lodge pole pine from Colorado. I personally picked these and had them cut buy a local saw guy before moved from Colorado to Illinois.
I am sure you could get some beetle kill somewhere and have it shipped if that's what you wanted.
Paint is factory white, just in a hot rod flat.
Front bowtie panel is mar-k sold through LMC . Flat black as well.

I like it. What did the stainless strips cost? They look really sharp. :waytogo:

90 bucks I think. Then another 50 for the side angles and 40 or something for the bolts.

Well damn, I really liked my cheap 8-dollar tail lights until I saw your new ones. They look great! How's the quality of those LMC stainless strips?

They actually aren't bad, seem to be close to the same gauge of steel that the factory ones are. They package them well when shipping. And the holes are right where they are supposed to be.

Not sure what else there is other then that.

So.... with the 496 in it that 31 gallon tank should give you about the same distance range you have now I'm guessing :D

Actually I would suspect this would be pretty close. Not really what I was going for, but yes.

Really the little carb 350 doesn't do that great on mpg....or maybe it's just my driving :burnout:
... maybe a fuel injected BBC might do a better?

Might depend on how your driving habits change with the new heart. :D

This truck is having a problem keeping the headlight connection on back of the main head lights. The wires are loose and the whole assembly keeps backing off slightly losing power to the headlight.
Both sides do it.

Anyway to fix this?

So I have had a Edelbrock performer RPM intake, laying around the shop for about 10 years, it showed up on my doorstep one day. As in like literally I walked out and it was laying there. (My guess is neighbor that knew I was car guy left it there for me).

Anyway, I checked on the machine shop the other night and the 496 should be in line to get machined in the next few weeks. So the reality is that this swap won't happen in this calendar year. This being said I decided to toss the intake on the wheezer 350. I have been fighting with myself for several months with this because I simply didn't want to spend any money on the small block. But the intake kept calling my name.

I also had a fairly crusty set of chrome Edelbrock valve covers sitting around from a old junked out parts truck. So I threw those on with the manifold. Shot everything flat black since the whole "Murdered out" thing was hot in 2009....guess I'm 7 years to late...
Also made some better sense of the plugs wires with a 6 dollar wire separator kit. and I rebuilt the HEI with a cheap-o kit from Pep boys and tossed on a cheap-o set of wires...at least they are all the same color now....

Most of the reason I was even in there was because I got a dual fan setup from Kert on a DIYX4 garage sale, and I wanted to put that to use. So I did spend a bit of money and got the Derale dual fan control. this will probably end up on something else down the road, as what ever EFI I go with will most likely have a fan control in it.IMG_20160813_153521537.jpg

The reality is that I just don't have much time in my life for 350s any more. Life's to short to drive little engines.
While I am sure I'll own another 350 powered something. I don't look forward to it. I haven't drove it yet. I finished up the intake Sunday evening and I have been working on a few other things so it's not drivable yet. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.
