1976 C-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build

Took it out for a cruise to the look at the high water and the ice cream shop late afternoon early evening yesterday. On the way I had a Harley tell me I was missing a brake light. Ok no big deal. Then.....

On the way I home I seemingly lost power to all the gauges.
Lights still work fine. I did a quick fuse Check and didn't find anything amiss.

Checked the rear light and the light was fine. But the brake light didn't work.

Man old trucks are fun. Not really sure whats happening with either one because the mosquitos are THICK out because of our recent flooding and high water. So I put it in the shed. The river thats about 800 ft from my house hit the 100 year flood mark sometime over night.

Here is a pic just up the river of a small lock and damn.IMG_20170606_101059874.jpg

This was what it looked like yesterday

I couldn't even get to where I would have been standing in the first pic.

Crazyness.

Anyway back to trucks.
The wiring is pretty hacked up in this old girl. I kinda want to replace the wiring harness.
Is anyone remaking these for our trucks?
Or is it easier to just buy the standard universal kit from painless?
Guess I wouldn't mind going to a blade style fusebox as well.

EZ Wiring universal harness. I put it in my truck and it's been wonderful. Nothing smaller than 14awg wires, 21 circuits, wires are labeled every 12", and they come with some GM style connectors and it follows roughly the same factory color coding. It takes a little planning to lay out the whole harness but worth the extra leg work over the ridiculous cost of a "bolt in" Painless harness.

Not a good morning.
Stupid car had a dead battery so I had to drive the 454. Not a problem but it's a bitch parking downtown Chicago with a full-sized truck. I might have decided to drive the Stepside had these issues not popped up yesterday.

Not when I go downtown Chicago. I get uneasy taking it down there.
To many crazys.

Ever once and a while, downtown, yes.

Probably not. Half of it is just want.
The back of the truck had a poorly installed trailer plug, I fixed it up better, but didn't take the time I should have.

Underhood, is the same, not terrible but the starter wires have been screwed with.
Need to fix them, correctly.
Under the dash is super super rough. Scary even.

Its more of the thing, that I am going to put a whole new set of gauges in. And new engine/ tranny, I kinda just want new clean/good wiring..

21 color/circuit?

Looks great! Good to see it out driving.

Wiring issues sucks. I'm not familiar with the EZ harness though.

Thanks.

I am going to order this up but I'm afraid
That it will fall into the same fate as the 496 build... It's so much fun the way it is, I don't want to tear it apart... Lol
Well no, that's not going to happen... The day is coming old girl...

I'd link you to my build thread on where I installed the wiring harness (page 14) but all the pictures are missing, thanks Photobucket...

Yep, it's past the 100 year flood.
The river crested yesterday. They thought it was going to crest on Sunday.

Last night we got 3 more inches of rain.
My backyard is flooded for the 5th time in a month.

Anyway. Back to some build thread type of stuff.

The machine shop called me two days ago.
Told me he was ready to start machining the 454 block.
Yes, it's been over a full year since I dropped off the engine. Probably closer to 1-1/2 years. His backlog is that big, he's that good I guess...

So anyway... The 496 build is officially on....
