1977 Chevy C10 shortbed resurection/restomod/ratrod

so quick question... so I see dual tanks... what pressure you running? what year?

so I just put 1 new tank in my 78... and I went with the 87 saddle with baffles. also went 87 sending/pump unit but I opted for the 3 tube setup.
curious why you just have 2?

for me... I'm not using a return style regulator, yet, but will eventually...

so 1 for fuel up, 1 for fuel return and 1 for vent.... so for you.. I'm guessing.. 1 for fuel and 1 for vent?

my 78 also has that 1 wire solenoid where you just throw power and it selects say left tank. with no power its right tank... this summer I gotta add another tank... love duals..

30 years from now some future owner will be dropping the tanks and wonder what in the world those are doing on there. Haha.
I'm not old enough to kick the bucket that soon... give it 50 years. Then again, 30 years from now it may be me dropping the tanks wondering how that got there.

Spent most of the day, Saturday replacing the fuel tanks. Ran into one problem with the replacement tank transfer valve. The aftermarket part is "universal fit" and I was ok with that until I realized the fittings are for 5/16 hose instead of 3/8. I am currently only running off one tank until I sort that out.

Tonight I cleaned the wrecking yard paint pen from the rear bumper and replaced the fuel filter in the carb to fix a fuel starvation problem and replaced the headlights with leftovers from my 77 GMC that was recently parted out since they were less than a year old and I had one out.

I ran into the 3/8" vs 5/16" hose dilema on my truck recently,I went to replace a electric fuel pump that was added next to the gas tank and it came with 5/16" barb fittings and the tank's main fuel feed hose from the sending unit was 3/8 ", all the way to the firewall fuel filter (I used 3/8" copper tubing with just shorter lengths of fuel hose to join the tank to the filter )...
I was able to get new 5/16" hose over the 3/8" barb fittings OK..
Used some motor oil to lube the inside of the hose and the hose went on with some force,I used a 3/8" barbed coupler for air hoses to make the splice...
I could have made an adapter as I did in the past when I had to put a 3/8" fuel hose on a 5/16" barb fitting,I took two pieces of tubing ,one 5/16" and the other 3/8" and brazed them together, they fit perfectly inside each other..put a "bubble" on each end with a double flaring tool to make a "barb" so the hose wont tend to leak or slide off it..

I have searched parts stores and none seem to have a barbed 3/8" to 5/18" coupling...

I picked up some 5/16 barb to 1/4 NPT Male and 1/4 NPT female to 3/8 barb brass fittings at the hardware store. That should make it possible to hook up the transfer valve if I cannot find another solution. It looks like AC Delco sells a conversion to the 80s style valve as well but that requires more wiring. I'm still debating which direction I want to go.

I followed that up with installing the rear sport bumper pulled from a K5 with factory truck brackets I found in the wrecking yard a couple months ago.
Nice score! I very much want one of those for my 73. To clarify, are the brackets you used from the K5 or where they already on your pickup? I wasn't sure if K5 brackets would cross over to a pickup. Or suburban either for that matter.

I used brass fittings like you described above except I needed one to reduce a 3/8" hose to fit a 1/4" hose..the fuel hose coming off the mechanical pump on my 6.2 ,to the injector pump, which had a 1/4" feed hose..didn't like using NPT threaded fittings ,but I put teflon paste on the threads and far as I can tell,no air sneaks into the fitting..
Would have preferred a barb type coupler with a 3/8" & 1/4" barbs, but no one had any locally (if there is such a thing!)..

The brackets are from a pickup. I ordered a new set with hardware from ebay for $115 then found a factory set a month later. If you want to buy the new, aftermarket brackets, I'd sell them for $100. They have never been installed.
