1977 Silverado Crew Cab.

No donor frame. I'll just use this frame. I have done a 2wd to 4wd swap before so I know what I'm up against. And I will just buy a new set of Stock Springs. I forget where I was going to get them. I think SD truck Springs? Or something like that. I think they were around $300 a pair.

Just don't do what I did and expect killer results from leafs just to rip them out for links.

I think I just wanted to much out of leaf springs. With the design of them I wasn't able to create the goal I was after.

Shouldn't Adam chime in about now? Lol

Luckily for me, I have no misconstrued notions that this truck will be anything more than a "expedition" style off roader at best. Most likely 4x4 will only be used in the snow, and sand. With random little usages here and there. Almost not necessary to have 4x4 on this truck, but I know I can't live without it!

I'm not bashing leafs, they work extremely well, I just got the link bug and went feet first into it.

I'm confident leafs will work perfect for you.

Ok just checking since I'll have this whole crew cab frame.

Thanks man! But for me, I'll just be better off with the 2wd frame. If I had a ton more space and more free time etc, I would be into the frame swap! Now, if the frame were attached to a set of one ton axles, that would be a different story! Then I could paint and plate the frame, go through the axles and have it all ready to go and just swap the body on! That I could go for!

Just a quick ramble...

You know, there just isn't enough time and money for guys like us. For example, on this truck, what I really want is hydra boost brakes, d60 front with some kind of upgraded brakes, a late model disc brake rear end, a boxed frame, a late model vvt 6.0/6l90, this cool air conditioning idea I came up with, and a plethora of other crap that I want to do! Trouble is, even if money was no object (I'm sure the money side of things would climb to nearly $25k pretty quickly) I still wouldn't have all the time I would need to put it all to use unless I just didn't have a job! I know with time and dedication it can all become a reality but the other thing that I'm realizing as I get older is that time really goes by insanely fast! I used to consider a year a vast expanse of time. Now, a year is measured more like, well it's after 4th of July so Christmas is just around the corner! So while it eases the pain of a multi year build, it also makes it seem more daunting. Knowing that completion is five years away because you have 5 months of actual work to do...

Anyway, it just comes with any hobby like this which is money and labor intensive when you also have a normal life to live also. One always gets in the way of the other.

Rant off.

Sounds like my build thread Mitch, at one time I had hardly no bills and a good chunk of cash flow every month. Fast forward 4 years and it's half together and to broke to do what I really want to do.

I find too tho that time and money ebs and flows quite a bit. It's just that the cycles can sometimes be measured in years also. It's funny tho to look back 10 years ago when a ls swap or a paint job was not only financially impossible, but there was no way I would ever attempt something so complicated! Now I have done both so it just goes to show that while progress can be painfully slow, there are guys out there that finally saved enough money to do a cam swap and some chrome valve covers on their 350 and are ridiculously stoked about it.

I think this is spot on. I'm going through the same things with my build right now. I have the body off, and thats the only thing that I wanted to do when I was getting ready to do this. Then I got a 14 bolt. And now I want a 60, because the 10 bolt isnt worth regearing. And we cut the back of the truck off, so now I need a fuel tank solution. I think with these trucks thought, thats what makes them unique. You can spend your 25 grand on a new Jeep, but so can Joe Blow down the road from you. The reason we're all on this site is because we love these trucks and love the process of making them better. I say money, time and heartache well spent.

Well that is a possibility as well.
