1979 K-10 Stepside Shortbox - Beagle's Build -

Im going through the whole rear drive shaft thing too right now. With roughly 6 inches of lift i can no longer use the 2 u joint driveshaft. Mostly due to binding but length too.

Ill be using a cv joint drive shaft with a slip yoke at the moment. From what i gather its much harder to pull a rear slip yoke out of the t case in the rear than the front. Its sort of a temporary setup for me but if i had to choose between slip yoke and fixed id go with fixed.

If you dont plan on wheeling with crazy flex id say the slip yoke is fine but certainly put a CV in there.

Ok so scratch the cv shaft idea. I don't think I need it. Any cons that go into the fixed yoke?

I should have mentioned put that i recommend a cv if you have more than a 4 inch lift. The cv just operates smoother at higher angles.

Shouldn't be a worry for me I only have a 4 inch kit.

Well that's good enough for me. I'll use the new to me 205 with the fixed yoke.
Guess now I need to source a new rear slip shaft. Where I get one:dunno:

there are cheaper around prolly... but Jesse builds some sick pieces...

Not really looking for a "sick" driveshaft. I am looking for a driveshaft that will do the job that I need. I don't waste money just because. I understand what custom means, but the business has to have competitive pricing as well.

so what size joint do you need? excuse my "sick" pieces term, I thought you might appreciate a craftsman..

figure out exactly what specs you want and google driveshafts..

Don't jump the gun, I do appreciate a craftsman. I am in quality assurance for a living... Just saying I am not building a show truck just need to get a nice functional unit. Certainly I will entertain your advice and give him a call, along with Tom woods and Denny's driveshaft. And lastly my local guy.
Simply don't want to overpay. I think most anyone can appreciate that.

details can make differences for some..

I'm sure they are all somewhat competitive.. I was just obviously advocating someone I respect as a vendor.. I'm sure others might say the same about Woods, etc..

His stuff looks nice, how's he do on price?

My experience is that HAD stuff is extreme, heavy duty, and you pay for that. Worth it if you need the extra oomph.

Also, shipping costs and hassle mean that if you have somebody local, often works out less spendy to use them.

Denny seems like a great deal but with a 3 week wait time I cant afford that. If I had the time id totally buy from them. They were $100 cheaper and they have some impressive guarantees on their drive shafts.

Tom woods and high angle are top tier in the drive shaft world. High angle was about $550 on a 1 ton shaft. Couldnt get much help from woods for some reason.

My local guy was alright but he wouldn't take a visa over the phone and was all over the map with price.

Then I went to driveline service of Sacramento. My 1 ton slip yoke shaft cost $580 with tax included. The guy knew what he was talking about and didnt mind me asking questions. Id recommend him for sure. His turn around time is usually 1 day, sometimes 2 so that was another benefit for me.

Thanks, good input. I have no idea when I will be ready for a driveshaft. In fact this conversation is only happening so I can reference it later.
With that said I am not to worried about lead time. I have a lot of other things to knock out first.

Going to check with all the places when it's time and go from there....

Yeah no problem. If time isnt of the essence id go with Denny. It stated on the shaft I was looking at that if you twist or snap the driveshaft he will build you a new one no questions asked. Seems like a good deal to me!

That should run really really good in that motor! I'm digging the roller, good thinking. This should thump pretty good! Hurry up and fire it so we can hear some potatoes!

I want to hear this beast thump some priuses to, unfortunately I am a good ways out from this going down in the the truck. I have a punch list of things to do and buy for the ol' girl that only rivals finnegan and freiburger on roadkill.
I slowly have been updating my punch list post a few pages back for my own reference, but it doesn't seem to be making much headway. :dunno:
