1981 K20

6" lift. 3/4 ton axles.
So took my axle to my buddy's to regear. Realize he doesn't a cherry picker. So brought it back home. So I'm gonna tear off the hubs and brakes and shafts and what not.
On way back Kristen said how are you going to get it done sibce your compressor died? Good point, so went to homey depot and bought a compressor. As I'm checking out the tool guy brought me a 20% coupon. So the universe is working in concert with me to get this axle swap underway. Had to rearrange my workshop area since the new air pump since it didn't fit in the old spot. But it's all good cuz now I have way more room for activities. Tomoro. Get the axle apart and hopefully get it back to him by so I can get it before he goes out of town Thursday. Also got a box coming from poly performance tomoro. Oh yeah.

I just did my first one a few weeks ago, a Jeep rear axle. And to be honest, its really not that bad once you get underway.

A few little updates.
Got the axle dropped off at my buddy's. gonna set it to 4.88s for me. He's gonna do the inner axle seals then me and Matt are going to knock out new bearings and seals on the hub side. Would really like to sling the 60 under the rig by Sunday. We shall see.

Also got this new toy.

I figured since the goal of this rig is to be a drive to wheeling destinations, I'm going to need the ability to air up and head home. Poly performance setup saved me about $200 or so over powertank brand. Ill take it.

Thats pretty slick. I gotta mount my scuba in the back of mine.

Axle is regeared. Gonna grab that in a few hours. Just dropped my hubs off. Gonna get the rotors turned, new races pressed and have them hot tank it so I got a fresh slate. Pretty excited to get this cracking.

Gotta love working at a shop with chemicals. Used a caustic bath to clean these parts.

Still have a bit of work to do but it's bolted in and the truck is off the jack stands.

Most people have 3/4 tons by going 10 bolt + 14 bolt FF.
I went 3/4 ton by going Dana 60 + 14bolt SF.

The previous owner put a locker and new gears in the 14sf so he is gonna run it till it dies.

He is going to jump it in the sand. Everyone knows Strong heavy axles are bad at that. Better get a weak 10 bolt set up and tell everyone they are silly for going 60/14ff.
