1981 K20

6" lift. 3/4 ton axles.
I wouldn't make any moves that raise your gear ratio. With 4.88's, 40's and 1.96 of a 205 I'm not sure you'll be happy with how it "crawls".
If a doubler isn't in your future or something along those lines I'd be tempted to rebuild the 208 (I wheeled on one for years with no real problems) or get a 241 in there.

I agree completely. Talking it over with the wife and what not.
I'm currently on the hunt for just a 32 spline 241 to dump in there. Ill keep the 205 in the garage and if later on the time is right ill make a doubler out of it. I think ill be happier having the lower low range than having the option for twin stick.

The detroit in the rear isn't acting very detroit like in that pipe video. You can see your PS rear tire is spinning, and the DS rear isn't moving. But otherwise sweet videos. Love how these old trucks yell at us when we flex em out. :waytogo:

I noticed that too. actually my buddy pointed it out and then I went and studied the tapes. I know for a fact there is one in there since I saw it when I drained the fluid, but i'm not sure now if I feel like going back to pull it out.

Cheaper than a front locker... just sayin

gonna do both! muwhahaha. actually I think if I just aired down I would've been fine. I was sitting at street pressure (35psi) the whole day. i'm pretty confident if I had gone down to about 15 i'd have had no issues, plus looking at it from the side, I should've went to the right instead of to the left. that was my bad yo!

I need a new front drive shaft. maybe yours will fit in my truck. But first I need Marry Poppins to pull and new IP out of her carpet bag for me.

Yeah but the problem with that plan is taking my ends to weld into my new square shaft. Just ordered up the steel to make that happen. Talked to my local driveshaft shop, and the longest slip they can do, is the setup I'm already bottoming out, and pulling out the other end so that's a no dice. So gonna take my ends since they are all new ujoints and weld them into a square setup. That'll happen sometime soon.

Also, ran new heater hoses from intake to heater and heater to radiator. Plugged the water pump with an npt plug. I'm still gonna try and put a ball valve in line to keep the heater from gettin warm since I don't have a heater control setup right now, but that can wait a lot more than leaking coolant.
As of right now I'm gonna try and go to hollister on Sunday this week. As long as I don't crawl too much I can be gentle on the front driveshaft and make it work. But I do need to desperately get after my fender trimming probably start on that tomoro.

Richcz28 has a square shaft, and he was banging on that thing in the dunes pretty hard and it held up fine. I think you'll be good to go with that route.

Yeah I know a few guys with them. I'm not worried.

Also last week I sent my suburban PCM in to mark at gearhead efi for a tune
Got it back and took it out for a spin last night.

Hooho daddy. Way more fun. It stays in hear a bit longer and doesn't hesitate to downshift to get me back in the meat anymore.
It feels like the bbc pre tune vs bbc with tune is almost the same difference as going from sbc to bbc. It's that much better.
So the suburban project is done now.

I aint gonna lie, this truck has a freakin sweet stance to it. Those 40's make me jelous!! And from the pics it doesn't look like you have much frame flex at all either (like most pickups do). Looks sweet dude :waytogo:

thanks! it definitely did before. if you see the pictures from before I did the springs, the suspension didn't move, it was just frame flex that did it. that's why I went ahead and did all the work before wheeling now its legit.

Well it worked! :D Nice job. Oh, and I might message you in the future about the details of what you had done to your computer on your 7.4 liter, if you are cool with that. I have a 96 K2500 (DD/Tow rig) with a 7.4/4l80e combo. It seems to run real good, but always looking for ways to make it better.

if you want I can post up the info I got with it here. sicne the suburban doesn't really "need" its own thread, i'll just keep that stuff in here as well.

Remove half of torque management, don't want to go more on the BB. What's left is just works during shifts.

Add 1-3 degrees spark for the BB in drive areas, remove some IAT spark retard below 210F.

CAT overheat off. Not needed on these with PE on and AFR correct.

Shift points up a couple MPH keep engine in power band.

Shift times down by 3/4.

PE delay to 0

PE afr to 12.5

Stoich AFR to 14.13 to match E10 fuel.

Idle in P/N with AC on is higher so it works better and keeps cool.

AC compressor turns off at 3000 RPM instead of 6000 RPM.
and I will say its totally worth the little bit that it costs.

Back on point to the red truck

Been hammering away at a few things. I ran new heater hose other day and the valves I found didn't work well. Ordered a few better designed off amazon and got them plumbed in. Interested to see how much cooler the cab is with no coolant flow to it.

Also had a steady fuel drip coming from right near the diverter valve for the dual tanks. Turns out the hose from valve to engine had a pinhole right after the clamp
So picked up some new efi rated hose gonna pop that on.
Soon as I get done I'm gonna start whacking on some fender material and try to get that trimmed enough to not brutalize my tires. All of this is because I'm going wheeling again tomoro. Ill have to be gentle since I haven't gotten my square shaft made but ill be able to do a few things at least

Went to hollister again today. Did done big fender trimming but still need to do much more. Also lost the front shaft again towards end of day so that just got zip tied up for now. Going to slick rock in September and probably another hollister trip before that.

So got lots of work to do over next few weeks.
