Why don't you just get one of those fabbed crossmembers from somewhere like ORD? Or just find a 4wd crossmember? Why change the entire frame?

No need to change the whole frame. You are letting your OCD get the best of you...lol.

Nothing really matches up and it would be easier to paint the frame. I do have a 4wd factory engine cross member.

Now you know that if you go trying to swap frames, you're just going to open a can of worms. Why do you need to paint the frame anyway? It's not going to rust away in your lifetime in that desert climate. You know your current frame is straight and crack-free. I think you should stick with it. See if the 4wd crossmember you have will work. I think there was some differences in the 2wd vs. 4wd frames towards the front that you should look out for (mainly around the steering box, so it shouldn't affect you). Also, I think most people end up relocating the front spring hanger for the rear springs when converting a 2wd to 4wd. I mean they just move the stock hanger down to where the 4wd spring hangers come originally.

I just figured sense it was apart I wanted to paint everything while I have easy access to everything.

I can see painting it....but I do not see a reason to swap out the frame. It is like andyblack said...

You really gotta watch out for that might as well stuff. If you want this thing back on the road within the next year, only do the things you need to do to get it back going again. Dont care if it takes 3-5 years? Then go ahead and get nuts with it. Arent you doing B52 front spring hangers anyway? THat means that one frame or another, you will have to drill rivets out. But its up to you. If you think you will be happier with a 4x4 fame than you will have to do it or you will never sleep good at night.

What he said ^^^^

Go with the ORD cross member and while its all apart paint the front half of the frame. Then just do the rest from underneath.

I already have all the factory 4wd brackets for the suspension. For the rear leaf hanger I have the diy4x upper shackle hangers.

It can be done, and I do know what it takes to do it.:doah:
You just have to be committed to it if that is what you want.
Make your plans and just stick to it and you can do it.

I couldn't agree more but I keep coming up with these new ideas. :doah:

I'm still sticking to the original plan, it's the little things that are making me second guess a few things.

I have 90% of this truck sitting in boxes already, it's just putting it back on 4 wheels that is the kicker.
