Also you may need to get that axle off the ground so it will move side to side better. There should be no reason to have to pull the spring with that strap to get things to line up. Almost looks like you need to raise the whole truck up to get more room to work under it, I am wonder if the driver side sitting on the ground isn't why you cann't get it to go together.

Maybe I will give it a try another day, like I mentioned above I was tired and feeling a bit dehydrated so I wasn't thinking clear. Before I make the pin hole bigger I want to raise the truck up higher and see if I can't position the axle better.

You need it high enough that the axle will float under there. I would think you are ok on the pin hole if the driver side fell all the way in the hole.

The drivers side is completely in the hole, just the passenger side is a little off and I can't seem to line it up.

If you can't get it lined up today, maybe you could take the springs off, put them in place on the spring perches on the axle, make sure both center pins are right, install the u-bolts loosely and then jack the frame up higher and lower it down in place over the axle and springs and bolt the springs onto their hangers.

Kind of the opposite of what you're doing now. This has worked for me a few times in the past. I always put the front bolts in first since the shackles on the rear will move around more when I'm getting them lined up.

I've got a feeling we'll be seeing a pic of the Baba Mobile on all fours sometime this week.

Yes we will, depending on when I get out of work each day. It might have to wait until Saturday.

Thanks for the tip I will keep that in mind.

The ORD U bolts I ordered are to short.

Awesome. It now has the stance of a Mexican low rider, only a little taller.

Bummer about the U bolts, but at least you wont have to stab the pins again when you change them out. Just take off and replace 1 u-bolt at a time.

Hahaha, I just want to put up a light and stare at it... I was bummed I had to tuck it into sleep tonight under a tarp.

Everyone else on here will probably disagree, but those u-bolts will work just fine.

I don't know it's kind of iffy. the nut is about a inch tall and it seems to have a lot of grab. But It wouldn't hurt to have them a inch and a qtr longer.

I understand your sentiment, but I have ran lots of u-bolts that didn't protrude through the top of the nut, and I have yet to kill that bus load of nuns.

When you torque them down to the proper 160 ft./lbs. or whatever they're supposed to go to, they will stretch out a lot anyway. They'll probably come up to at least the top of the nuts. Like the same place where you would normally saw them off level anyway.

So how did you get the center pins to line up after all that hassle?

Lots of guys on this site like to name their trucks. Right now, your's is looking like the Motor Boatin' Prerunner to me. :D

Seeing you go through this makes me wish my mom would have never wrecked the old 76 Heavy Half that I grew up with. I loved that truck.

u-bolts need min top of nut for threads to be flush . but best 2-3 full threads showing .

if you have never had a set come loose on the front before TRUST ME you dont wana skimp.:doah:

Acceptable thread exposure is half as thick as the threaded material.
Other words if the bolt being torqued is 1/2in (ubolts are 9/16) then 1/4 of threaded section should be showing.

I torqued them down to 150ft lbs. I had to drill out the center pin hole it wasn't big enough, once I did that it went right in.

We have never really had a name for this truck. It was always the blue truck, the truck or the beast that ate everyone's wallet.:haha:
