Wade, what do you think about the clearance now for the headers?
 
Not enough. For a mall crawler yes. But not for Moab or the hillbilly gathering. I would want an inch there. Just beat the fire wall in. That's what most guys would do.
 
Spend $2500 on a set of custom built headers. Then have them ceramic coated.

Thick rag against the firewall. Bend the lip back. May crack the paint. Just touch it up after.
 
You will have way more then that to touch up before you are done.:doah:
 
I was thinking the same thing Wade, I will have to give it a try.

Teck, If you loose closely, I already need to touch up some. :doah:
 
1" body lift will also make it easier to do your shifters if you're doing double sticks and it won't show up that bad. Also what if you want to do a super charger one day?

I'm just kidding about the super charger, but the 1" body lift is a good idea for you to consider.
 
And why not? Your truck's practically an empty canvas at this point. The sky's the limit.

Actually dude, don't think I'm being critical when I say this, but I think you need to sit down and write out a plan of what all you want to do and then stick with it. Be flexible, but stick to the plan, instead of jumping around and changing directions and wanting to do all this crazy stuff. I mean I know you're going to finish this thing sooner or later, but at some point you're going to have to finalize what you want to do and then go ahead and just work towards that goal. In fact, you could post the plan you come up with on this thread so that everyone can help steer you in the right direction and keep you motivated. Superchargers and coilover conversions are cool, but I think if you just stick to more basic stuff for this build, it will turn out just fine. I know you want to do your dream truck that will just blow up ck5 and be the best truck of all time, but I think you should just try to build a good, solid, reliable truck first and then upgrade it over time. I think you'll be happier that way. Sort of an evolution, if you will.

This is just my opinion however. It's your truck - do what you want. America is still a (semi) free country for now.

That's good advice! I learned years ago running driving projects are the easiest to finish and improve upon!
 
When I fist got the idea to build this truck I wanted coilovers but thought it was way to expensive.

I have had the plan in my head for years. I'm jumping around because I'm not sure what will effect one thing vs another and not having the money all at once.

I fully understand what you are saying, I'm building this truck to impress myself and no one else. If i impress people on the way then thats just a bonus and a pat on the back.

Are the body mount bolts anything special? I want to replace them. They appear to be a grade 5 but are they torque to yield? Would it be ok to step up to a grade 8?
 
The new mounts will probably come with directions. I wouldn't think you would want them super tight. Grade 8 would cost a good bit more I think.
 
Either I miss placed them or it didn't come with it. They might need to bend in a accident? I will have to look through my notes and see.
 
Yeah, I'd probably stick with grade 5. If something had happens, the grade 5 might give where as the 8 would just mean you now have a hole in the floor :D they don't get torqued much anyway.
 
That is what I was thinking, I was just thinking 10 minutes ago I needed to make a trip out to the hardware store.
