So from the sounds of it, cut out my mess I created the other day and get a fresh piece in.

I sure wish you lived down the street from me so we could team up and get some work done.
I think we all have as much forum time as Ben has build time in this truck.
I have put my fair share of hours into this truck, I'll be glad when it's done so you guys can't give me any grief. 
It's funny I have people that say they will help but when it boils down to needed them Wade was the only one to come through. Everyone here has been the biggest asset of this build. I don't know what I would have done without each and everyone of you.

When filling holes like that, when you have access to the back side. Get a piece of copper flat bar, clamp it on and start welding. I have an old piece of been using for years ( 1/2 X 2 X 8 inches), works great for filling holes, the weld does not stick to the copper. Even so, you still have to let it cool down.
That works very well for sheet metal as well.
Ben just take your time don't rush it's metal if you mess up you can always cut it out and start over. Taking your time is key.
Yes, I'm not sure what I was thinking, I should have just stopped. Sometimes taking a break is making progress.
I think my coil overs might be shipped today, ORD charged my card. If that is the case I should get them before Friday, doesn't matter cause the rest of the kit isn't done yet but coming very soon.
Almost had a major hick up, the family's DD is making a ticking noise at high rpm... I think it's crapping a cam and lifters.
167K on a 02 avalanche only has had a water pump and hte intake gaskets done less then 3k ago.

So are you filing the holes for aesthetics or do you need to put a structural bracket in those locations? Sorry if I missed it.

Turn it into a solid lifter engine. Weld them up. You have the technology.

Little of both, I had a few holes within about 10 inches of each other and I wanted to fill them in. I also plan on building fish plates for the hoops and the bumps that are L shape going on the top of the frame and sides.

Knowing my luck I would blow through it and have to buy new ones anyway. 
Well it's not so much random, I plan on welding the hoops to the frame then slipping the plate down welding to the frame then to the hoop again. I'll just fancy shape them so they look pretty.

It's a roller cam... not terribly likely. Could be a valve spring. (Jason4x4 told me that's a common failure on LS engines) Look at the oil pressure too, the oil pump pick-up tube has an o-ring that fails often
It does have a slight oil pressure problem on startup.
Everyday coming home I keep looking at the door thinking I'm getting parts. I seriously can't wait!
