It appears that's the drain plug? I guess if its always lubed up that's not a bad thing.. at least you will never suffer from chaffed or galled threads.. personally I like to use a little "Right Stuff" when I encounter those types of situations where there is a leak from the "Drain plug" good luck gear oil smells like $hiat..
I've had a few of them come from 69......

Mine leaks from 69...all the time...
I took a look a bit ago and it also could be the front shaft output seal. I won't know until Saturday when I pull it apart. I'm going to park it until then. =(

I thought leaks and rattles were a 'feature' of old trucks...
Yes they are but rather annoying it gives me the squirrel affect.

Lol poor Ben. I think mine leaves a drip or two from every system nearly every night. Meh I say.
I have noticed leaks from every fluid-filled system on my Suburban except the front differential and the transfer case (and they might leak, too, it's kinda hard to tell given how much oil is everywhere). I'm fixing the serious leaks (one-by-one), but I'm not sweating much over the drips. That is one of the many costs that come with 30-year-old toys.

Nope. This is so not true. Just because it's old doesn't mean it has to leak. Especially not with newer technology out helping us out. Newer compounds or synthetics to help in the gaskets. Newer technology like a one piece oil pan gaskets for the small chevy. Yada yada yada. I refuse to have my stuff leak. It may take some time and money. But, outside of just getting it done. I refuse to hide behind that it's an old truck and that's to be expected. Bullsh!t.
I want this truck to be able to drive to new York from Arizona. Be able to wheel and do expeditionary camping trips.
Oh, no. I didn't mean that it has to leak just because it's old. Just that many of the factory components are no longer fully functional at this time. I'm getting the leaks fixed, one-by-one. I just meant that I'm not worried about it in the mean time, as I understand why the leaks are happening. Seals get old.
For my specific situation, I have a number of higher priorities, so I don't plan to fix all the truck issues today. Or tomorrow. So I'm fixing the biggest issues, as I have time, and not obsessing over the others.
There is a middle ground between spending the time to rebuild an old truck into a new one (like Baba and so many other folks have done
) and simply running an old truck into the ground. That middle ground is where I have been. Maintenance gets done, and the trucks are slowly becoming new (as things break). But I haven't had much interest in taking the truck off the road to redo all the old components at once.Carry on, Baba. You're doing good work on this rig.

Well, looks like it is either coming from my hokey breather tube or the front shaft output seal.
I topped off the fluid, and cleaned the case. Going to check it out in 20 mins when I leave work then when I get home 15 mins of highway. Hopefully it's simple and I'll have it fixed tomorrow so I can go to the lake on Sunday.
