I keep feeling like we've spent so much time and effort on these "rebuilt" trans to have accomplished nothing. Of everything done on this build, why keep taking shortcuts?
Either buy a tech manual and learn how to operate on the trans and dude it yourself. Or pay the money and get a reputable transmission say from @Greg Ducato and drive off into the sunset happily ever after.
At least with Greg you get an outstanding warranty and you know it will be done right.

I had an old drunk build mine. He had a Chrysler, Ford, and my 700 all broke down in the same parts washer at the same time when I stopped by with the cash...

:D

Ok guys, so I don't know how Ben feels about doing it himself, but I know that I would be intimidated as hell !!
So how can we help him either gain confidence in his skills, or help make a decision to try another route.
I helped with both of my 700R4 trannys, and I still feel like I would be worried about tearing into another.

I ask because my teaching skills flat suck!
Even worse in text!

I know some of you guys will have the right words!

More cow bell!

I would agree that I sure as shit wouldn't want to go internal on an auto. But I've also not built an ls swapped rig with coilovers. He clearly has the skills when he slows a step and puts his mind to it.

Nope, not for me, and I don't think he should at this point being already frustrated enough.... Transmission installs are too much work, and there are so many variables. I remember watching craig blow up four 700r4s in minutes after install, and it ended up being something dumb, like a ball in the wrong location on the valve body.

Id rather spend the cash to know I have a proper unit, and put it in.

I'm sure most of us could be taught or learn but I don't need a tranny failing on the trail nor have the time to f-with it.

I already decided that when my 4L65e blows up I will be ordering a gearstar. Just replacing the pump was a pita. I just don't want to deal with that ish. You spend a week rebuilding it just to put it in and then discover that one of the seals swelled incorrectly and now, you are f'd. Screw that. Let someone else give you a warranty.

Not cheap, but do it right imo You have dealt with so much crap at this point, you have to pull out the credit card at some point and say I am this far in, if I stop now, I have wasted X$$$$

Franks transmission in deervalley does a nice job, very honest. Tell him Dave and Cameron from deer valley autobody sent ya.

btw I asked my trans guy and he things the converter might not have been seated properly which is why you heard the pop and then nothing.. hence the pump is bad..

That's what I was thinking.

Seems the only crucial thing on the install is making sure its seated.

Do you have the correct flex plate? Don't some of them have different spacing?

That was my first thought as well.

I was 15 years old swapping in a rebuilt th350 in Dad's El Camino and I experienced what I would call a pop when I put it in drive and then nothing....I f'kd up a brand new transmission and the builder (friend ours) said I didn't have the converter seated properly.
