Put T-case in Nuetral, drive the transmission through all gears. If it makes noise it's in the Trans or possibly a bearing in the input of the Transfercase. Otherwise if it's quiet then it's either in the rear end, front end or the output side of the transfer case.
Just remember to shut the truck off before putting shifter in park after this test. I think all of this has been said already but this is a 2 minute diagnosis that will either confirm or help with your thinking.
What I don't get is then why does 1st gear work fine?
Because Rev. and 1st are on the same shaft.
Just go do it and stop all this wondering and question. Just dont put it in park or reverse with out shitting it off first. With the transfer case in N nothing will stop it from spinning.

Then if no noises, pull the driveshafts off of the transfer case and do it again.

Still does the noise when the case is in neutral.

100% agreed. The gremlins are mad at me, nothing like spending a year just trying to sort them out.

I want overdrive for the highway. Ultimate goal is to create a oleander truck and with the 4.56 gears it will be screaming on the highway
This is more of a driver then a wheeler.

Gremlins.
My 4:10's with 37 did not scream down the highway. Would it get better MPG sure but not sure screaming is the right word. I drove it to ID, Moab twice was not a big deal.
