True but if it works right...

It's a preference. My street truck has a perfectly working, professionally rebuilt, nicely modified 700R4 that is awesome on the road. I'd still rather have a stick. Even a well-done automatic is still an automatic, and some folks just don't like them.

YMMV.

I enjoy them and it allows me to enjoy driving much more and just focus on the road and random things.

Yep, nothing wrong with that. It's a preference. Personally, I find an automatic distracting, I can pay better attention to the road and random things if I'm not interrupted by unwanted gear changes. Same reasoning, opposite conclusion.

The good news (for you) is that people with my preference are going extinct. Lots of new models don't even offer a stick-shift option anymore. :1zhelp:

You see with a 4l60 or 700r4 I have never felt it do a unwanted shift. It usually always in a appreciate gear or not hard to move the shifter down or up to where you want it of you feel it's wrong.

I do like a manual, just depends on the application.

It's a toss up. I loved my 465/205 combo in my 75. Great off road. Sucked in traffic. The 700 in the 91 is growing on me. Way better in traffic. Off road with the 241 isn't bad either. I like them both. Now if a nv4500 dropped in my lap so I could have granny gear and od I would not complain.

Gear splits are more favorable, dual overdrive. And it's not a 700.

Sticks are meant for go quick vehicles or heavy haulers. Daily drivers are nice with the auto.

I'm biased though.

My true daily for 9 years has either been a 465 hp cummins in a Volvo with a 10 speed behind it or a 400 horse Mack with either an 8 or a 10 speed behind it.

My thinking is that if you are heavy enough or quick enough to benefit from a manual trans, then great.

Otherwise you are doing something that can be done for you, and building left leg muscle...

The fastest cars (short of Lenco setups) are all autos.

In my past life, I played with Mitsubishi's a lot. 965 hp GVR4 with a front tube chassis and stripped everything (2800 lbs) and a stick couldn't beat a full weight 3400 lb 650 Hp auto car.
