1983 K10, Shannons truck. ***UPDATE POST #418***

You may find that just letting it sit will allow the air pocket to get worked up towards the top and come out.

Otherwise make sure it's full put the cap on and go for a short drive then let it cool all the way again. Maybe that will do it. I've always just filled them up, ran it and let the thermostat open and circulate the water to get the air to come out so I'm not much help.

I have filled stuff up through the thermostat hole before then installed the stat and upper hose and topped the rad. off.

You need to take pictures from a closer vantage point, not all the way across the shop, either that or get a zoom lens. I'm old and don't like to strain my eyes to look at your GF. K Thx

Yup. Gonna go pick one up and give it a try. My radiator sits just as low, so I don't see how it can be of any difference, also her body lift would only raise the radiator compared to the engine height...

I totally missed a great opportunity of her in her work shirt sitting up in the engine bay..... But I was in the middle of hole sawing my battery box and didn't feel like going to get my phone. :flipoff7:

Dumb truck was dumb today.

Went to take the thermostat housing off, and as expected on any old aluminum housing on top of a cast intake.... The bolts broke.

So I spent 2 hours drilling and tapping the intake back out.

Next time, with those bolts sticking out like that, set a flat washer down, then thread a nut onto the expose broken bolt. Weld the nut to the broken bolt, and turn it out with a socket.

I had the same thought. Body lift should help. But it still looks low. Maybe it's just the camera angle? FWIW, my (large, oversized diesel) radiator comes up to the top of the core support, and its mounts bolt into that top surface. You appear to be several inches lower. :dunno:

Yikes. :eek1:

How did it turn out with the new T-stat installed?

They would have just snapped again. The one broke flush to the casting, the other was only a few threads tall. Drilling worked great really.

I found a leak in the pass side tank though, very very small, but while I'm already here, I'm gonna yank it and drop it off at a rad shop to have gone over. Be done with it.

Adam a lot of times that fix gets enough heat to the threads that they will come right out.

Great tip Martin

Possibly. Ive done it that way before, didn't really feel like welding next to the carb and gas lines though. Also im pretty sure they were a terrible grade bolt. I snapped them both with a short 3/8 ratchet.

Not a big deal. Its all out and tightened back down now.

Sooooooooooooooooo...how did it turn out?

Broken bolts suck...that's all I have to add...hate dealing with them--its always the most difficult ones to get at that snap on me too..

Might pay to have that radiator flow tested, seeing it never ran hot until you put that one in--maybe its plugged up ?..

Ill tell them do the works and go through it. Other than that one spot, it looks like its in pretty darn good shape.

I dont have those fancy things. That would have been nice though.
