1983 K5 trail truck/dd/ R.I.P. 03/14/18

Well, there's at least 3 NV guys that would be glad to meet you there. And, I'm sure some of the Nor Cal guys too. I'd like to rope Avery into one of the Rubicon rides some time.

I went in August. It was a really nice time to go: weather was perfect. It's at a really high elevation, so late fall through early spring would be terribly cold with a good chance of snow. It's not a trail I'd do in the snow, mostly because of Cadillac Hill essentially being a narrow cliff edge that you have to drive up with lots of off camber stuff leaning toward the drop off.

You'd probably be fine as early as late April. But, it would still be cold - probably in the 20s at night.

I'd go in May. It is a particularly pretty time of year in that part of the Sierras. But cold doesn't bother me. I'm going backpacking near there next month, an I'll let you know how it is at night.

It looks like I've got another little one on the way :D. So the missus is insisting I make the k5 more family friendly. So far this is what my plan is..
- new tc ez rides in the front
-bilstiens on all 4 corners
- fix the rust in the passenger floor
-new rubber floor and some sort of insulation
- new seats and belts front and rear, I'm thinking prp.
- speakers in the doors and dash( currently 6x9s behind the front seats)
-redo exhaust so it exits out the back

And after all that is done I need to finish my 60 and get it in.

Congrats on the new edition!

Also props to your wife for not insisting you get rid of your Blazer.

I like your plan except for one thing - I can't recommend routing the exhaust straight out the back if you plan to run with the top on at all. The fumes will find their way into the cab and make everyone sick in no time, no matter what speed you go. Trust me on this. Don't do it. You won't be able to stand to ride in it. There's a reason GM made the exhaust exit on the side. If your wife is worried about the exhaust noise, I would try to switch to some quieter mufflers instead.
