1984 K10 | My $$$ Eater

Funner with a helper! Unless you are dead set on keeping those traction bars, there are better methods out there for controlling wrap without the drawbacks that the rancho bars have.

OLD TECHNOLOGY RULES!!!

Lol!

I'm not stuck on these bars. AND... They are paid for. But, for now... They're on the truck and they help to keep up the 80's look! Lol!

Yeah... I need help.

Thanks for the info!

Rob

Thank you!

I feel like I have a decent foundation to do some good things with this truck.

You can make the 208 work with the advance adapter kit.
Asked a friend about axles, I will call him again now that I see you are looking for a 14 FF with 4.10's and 3/4 ton front.

I will be glad to show you what it takes to do an LS swap

Nice lookin truck. Sorry bout the bro but you honor him by keeping his truck goin. If you Don't plan on anything bigger than 35 inch tires 3/4 ton will b good. Otherwise look for a Dana 60. I got my 3-4 tons 4.10 gearing for 400 both axles. Not too bad considering they just needed new seals. It should be easier to find in Texas. I had to dig through a pile of pulled axles to find what I wanted. They had already scrapped the rest of the trucks. Keep up with the pics. At least your daughter is interested in helping. Most kids these days it's like pulling teeth to Get them out of The house and off their electeonic devices.

Those Rancho bars should work just fine for most mall crawling, mudding, mild trail riding. Any kind of rock crawling where you need suspension articulation and they would hinder the trucks abilities.

Bushings should be available through Daystar. I think all you would need is measurements. :dunno:

I may have a set of those bushing at my shop. Got a couple of set of those bar in the back

@496truck...

Daystar!!! That's right! I had forgotten that they made the bushings for those bars.

For now, the plan for my truck is to be a DD. When I go out to Colorado next spring with my Jeep buddies, I'll pull the bars off so that I don't limit my suspension travel. On the street, my front sway bar and these bars should keep most of my "sway" to a small wander.

My kids have stacked themselves to drive it when it comes to be their turn to get a license. It'll need to be tame enough for them too.

So, it won't be a trailer queen, but it won't be a demolition derby truck either. I plan to scrape some dirt off the ground with it.

Thanks for the input on the bushings. I'll take a look around.

Rob

@Teck...
If you find your bushings and you are willing to part with them, lemme know what you want for them.

If you have a good contact for a 3/4 ton axle, I'm all ears. I'd been thinking 1 tons because I like the idea of having something MOSTLY non-destructible in the D60 front. Getting out to Colorado for some wheelin' next spring most certainly means that I'm planning on driving it back. Lol! I'm totally willing to change my front 10bolt over to the 3/4 outers.

I had hoped that you'd be up for answering questions on that LSX swap... As I mentioned earlier, this will also be a DD. I drive from SW Arlington to Carswell everyday. At 9MPG, it would get old fast. I'm hoping that the LSX swap will help my mileage. If I can at LEAST double my mileage, I'll be happy.

In all honesty, doubling your milage to 18mpg would be difficult. You would have to keep an overdrive trans, and even then it's going to be tough. My '12 gmc sierra all stock with 3.42 gears and double overdrive trans with active fuel management and variable valve timing gets me 14.5 average. Granted I can get over 20 on the highway but that's with having all the cards stacked in my favor. So maybe if you can put it at a more realistic 15 - 16 you could possibly get it.

Regearing a ten bolt or a Dana 44 to 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56's is a waste of money. There are thousands of 3/4 ton axles with those three choices of gears already in them. Have you looked into finding a 1990 or 1991 NP241 from a K5 or a Suburban? They already have a VSS and they are stronger than an NP208.

It truly was wishful thinking... I actually get 17 in my Honda Pilot. I have been hoping to get better gas mileage than my Pilot. I drive 24 miles each way to and from work. Most of it is on high ways that move along pretty well.
...15 to 16 is still better than what I get now. I'm pretty sure I could do better with the 350/700r4/33's/3.08's, but it's geared so high that dropping into OD REALLY lugs the truck down, and I end up just driving around in 3rd.

The plan to swap to an LSX is not something that I'll be doing right away. I want to take my time, do my homework, learning everything I can from everyone else's swap, here on CK5.

I've done a TBI swap into a 1978 El Camino. Looking back, I should have taken more time to do it right.

Thanks so much for your input!

I have heard that a lot lately! LOL! I'm new to the Arlington area, so I'm itching to explore some of the salvage yards around here. I intend to find some running gear soon.

A newer 241 would make sense, but I have been under the impression that they are becoming more and more rare in those years. If I stumble across one, I'll be grabbing it up.

I made contact with a guy on CL to buy some 1ton gear, but I moved to slow, and he sold the stuff.

Thanks Martin!

What about using a newer model GM rearend???

I still haven't made it out to the salvage yards yet... But every day, I see 3/4 ton military vehicles running around. GM Vans and trucks. Anything good about them? Just curious...

Salvage yard day!

Made it out to a couple of salvage yards today. I found several 2WD 3/4 ton SF rear ends, but no 4WD 3/4 tons. I'll be going out to a couple of other yards next week. Maybe, I'll hit the jackpot out there!!!

Big thanks to TECK for advice today!

Mile Marker Problem

<EDIT> Nevermind... I don't have good light in my garage. I couldn't see the "other" snap ring that is in place around the aluminum hub. UGH! What a pain that one is with out a good tool!

Thanks anyway!

So, I have started to disassemble my front hubs and ran into an issue that I can't get past. The cover came off fine, but when I looked underneath, I can't find the clips that are holding the hub on the axle. Notice that there isn't that small diameter snap ring on the end of the axle. It looks like there SHOULD be one, but there wasn't one. This is an older set of Mile Marker Lockout hubs that I got off my brothers truck A LONG time ago.

It seems to me that there is another ring holding the gears from slipping out, but I can't find anything that shows that I need to remove the ring... let alone HOW to remove it. It does not appear to the snap ring type.

The outer locking ring that holds the small planetary gear has already been removed along with the gear.

I'm trying to get my truck road ready for a trip to Colorado.

Thanks Guys!

Rob

There is a snap ring around the outer diameter of the lockout, just inside the hub.
