1986 GMC 3+3 dually build.- cummins swap.. Round 2, 2024 update.

So I am getting rid of my old white tube crap shocks and putting on some Blistien 5100's. Just laying under the truck looking at the shackle angle on the front... I am not confident this thing swings much while driving. I did convert this truck to 4wd so I guess I am off by a 1" or so to give it a decent looking angle. What do you guys think? Should I replace it with an offset shackle to improve the ride?

Nah, that angle looks fine for driving on the road. That is very comparable to what they came stock. I say do the nicer shocks, and if you still want more ride quality after that...look into nicer/custom springs. I don't think changing the shock angle is going to do much for you IMO

I'll be 87th in line and say do the shocks first...

Then I'll say if you don't see any contact marks between the spring eye and frame rail then you are just fine shackle wise.

I have similiar seats in my Ford. They were all the rage back in the 90s. Big and puffy and comfy as hell. The cup holders on mine suck on the wooden console. They are too big around and too shallow and any drinks just fall over in your lap or on the floor with the first turn you go around.

yes, mine also suck, they r about 5" dia and 1.5" deep... so yes coffee goes everywhere. I need to make inserts

Yeah I keep wanting to get some PVC the correct size to fit in them that is a few inches tall. Except I have 4 kids so when all 6 of us are in the truck then we have zero cup holders anywhere cuz the only 4 are on the console.

I'm thinking of picking up some seats out of an early 2000's Silverado crew cab (the ones with the 60/40 seat in the front like yours that has the flip up/down middle) and swapping them into my crew cab. The front seats in those years have the belts built into the seats, and they are really comfortable. I'm gonna try and find some in good shape in a wrecking yard someday soon

Front looks good but either this guy did a bad job on the rear seat install or they kill a ton of leg room with how they are set up. But at least you can see. https://classifieds.ksl.com/listing/51593062

There's a lot of stuff out there about shackle but really what you have is nearly perfect. The near vertical angle lets them swing more freely and the springs can do their job properly.

That thing is for sale on C-List up here in the Boise area right now. It has a cummins in it...at least what the ad says is it was a body swapped onto a dodge frame...I kinda doubt it though. But yeah, I saw that a few weeks ago and that ad is what got me thinking to do it. To be honest, that back leg room looks about the same as my current bench seats front and rear. These things were not known for very good leg room in the back seat (the burbans were better cause they could push the middle seat back just a tad).

But I agree, I think you could push the seat just a little further back (even if it meant that the back of the seat is just a little bit more up and down) to make it fit better overall. Or, since we are short people in my family, maybe mount the front seat just a bit closer to the dash. I'm think I'm going to try it. My front bench seat is sagging on the driver side (obviously the most warn out always) and it gets annoying after riding in it for an hour or more

The problem is if there's any angle to the seat back, it really kicks the seat forward. That's the problem I have with the suspension seats for a back seat. So in order to get more leg room you need a seat with a nearly vertical back. Either way it's not ideal for comfort. My oldest is 5'-9" now and he still does okay in the backseat. He complains about having to go anywhere so it's hard to tell if the comfort of the backseat has anything to do with it.

If you look close you can see the coil front suspension through the one wheel well. Also curious what’s going on with the expandafoam HVAC box

How much lift did you end up with? What did you use for spacers on the rear? Truck looks great. 37" humvee tires on stock wheels?

Hey, so the truck is about 4" of lift in the rear and 6"front springs that sagged perfectly , humvee tires on stock rims and a 2" aluminum spacer in the rear. thanks! its a lot of fun
