1986 GMC 3+3 dually build.- cummins swap.. Round 2, 2024 update.

My rear drive shaft is 2 piece. Yours should have been when your truck was a 2wd too. I didn't move the carrier bearing location when my shaft was built, only the front half was modified.

I worked at a machine shop when I built my truck so I built my own spacers. I made them 3" thick. I could have gotten by with 2.5" thick but any less and the tires will rub each other

Keep in mind that of you want to run the military 37's like Travis and I do, that you will need 16.5" wheels

yeah i realized that, i like my rims but i suppose im willing to change them. Would standard 16.5 dually rims work or be too thin?

EDIT, i just read your thread, 3" spacers and standard dually rims.. still no issues yet?

so, what do you guys think i should do for shocks? I know the standard 40buck ones will work, but will i feel any difference between say rs5000's and blistiens or even fox with my type of suspension? I love fox just from my mountain bike background and how rebuildable they are.. plus they are pimp but quite expensive...

So with my leaf pack in the back.. i doubt ill feel any difference right??

I'm just running the RS5000's for a 4" lift on the front. Haven't replaced the rear yet but plan on the same. I don't think it matters a whole lot on a street rig.

My jack shaft is right at 14" center of u-joint to center of u-joint. It does have a slip in it. Running the carrier bearing on the rear shaft in the stock location. I still don't have a front shaft. :doah:

Hey guys.. soo im waiting for driveshafts still, and i have been trying to decide on which shocks to get.. I would like this truck not to ride like complete ass.. the front has tuff country ez ride 6" springs, used, so under the cummins they sit pretty low and soft.
The rear is the stock dump truck pack with overload that comes on these 3500's. So will it make any difference if i get crap shocks vs top of the line fox for the ride quality? I plan on eventually puttin air bags in back and taking out a few leafs to help the ride.

So my list..

cheap white ones

Blistiens5150s

RS5000/9000s

fox.... cuz well they are pimp and completely rebuildable..

hahaha helll nooo, only reason i mentioned fox is because of how much i love them on my mountain bike and know how to tear them apart/put em back together.

Today was a freakin awesome day, i got the steering done, shocks on, driveshafts in.. SHE DROVE!! after a lil mess up with the oil/hydroboost lines, got it driving great. Here is a quick clip of my brother backing it into our driveway.... i drove it 30miles today. Such a good feeling!!!

Sweet :waytogo: :woot: :pimp: truck sounds great, looks awesome ......Great work :D

Thanks guys, been driving the hell outta her, got a tank burned up and on my 2nd now.. still no tach or speedo though..... :doah:I am using my phone gps for that for now.. the 410gears and 31s were killer on the highway.. she was screaming at 65 it seemed.. I had planned to put 37's on it for a while, they are cheap and make the gearing actually usable. I am waiting for my spacers to come in.. and then all 6 will go on.. yes ones backwards but when i get the spacers and 2 other tires that will be fixed..

Major issue is the input to the transmission i believe is leaking pretty bad.. gives me a lil puddle whenever i park it.. thats like dripping gold onto the ground! so... trannys gotta come back out unfortunately soon... other than that, not bad at all, really fun to drive!

I'm still using my phone for a speedo too. Been almost a year now. Sucks about the tranny leak, that sh!t ain't cheap! You've really got me thinking about 6" springs when I replace mine.
