Got the trans back! Got the truck back inside after a few months of neglect, got the motor almost all the way sealed up. What is your recommendations for sealing up the front end of the motor? Gasket, Motorgear ford grey rtv or combo?
RTV always worked for me.
If you use Motorcraft gray you'll never get the cover back off!
I like a gasket for that, properly torqued of course and the cover has got to be flat. I also use aerosol high tack to glue it to the cover or even 3m spray adhesive.

PERFECT, so no oil will get out either? hahaha
I used it on my oil pan so I got my fingers crossed I never have to take that off. My front cover is just gasket by itself. Nothing extra.
Its been a minute, started swinging the motor in the frame, fixed some stuff I didnt like, cut out all my old engine mounting plates and lots of work ahead. Its wierd being back in this position 10years later and a lot busier in life. My front shackles were always hitting my frame so a little cut with no motor made this lots better.
Well, slow details progress, motor is in, ill have to dig through my pictures for it. I am stuck though. I for the life of me cannot figure out what the heck slip yoke I need for my 2wd nv4500. I had it rebuilt with

What type of tolerances should I have on the slip and shaft?
I will call the company I bought the mainshaft from again but last time they were no help to me. Told me "they only deal with the transmission parts"

12v Cummins wont stay running, I can pump my primer for 300 times, then it runs for 20seconds, dies, starts up for another 2seconds, and wont stay running. I've bleed the air out of the injectors a few times, trying to check for leaks but no luck so far. Any tips?
Shut off solenoid?
Plugged fuel filter or its sucking air. Either plumb in a clear hose to check for air or run a hose to a bucket to bypass the rest of the suction side. Fuel filter first though.
Yeah, I plan on the bucket today, going to replace the fuel preheater gasket and get rid of the preheater too. I hear it can suck in air through there where the wires were.
Funny you mention it. I finally got out to it not at 9pm after work and kids and realized the fuel solenoid is not working, if I manually hold it up, she works and runs great! I kind of want to change this over to the manual shut off. I like the idea if its a manual shut off cable it can be a bit of a theft deterrent as well.. thoughts? They make nice kits now just a bracket bolts right on. Plus, less wires.
I did the manual thing for a while and it was a pain. Went back to the electric one.
My Perkins has a cable shut off, and yes if you keep it pulled out you can't start it.
Mine was made from a choke cable
I think the manual tranny is more of a theft deterrent than my shut off cable, lol. But I got one from tractor supply, couple small brackets and I was in business.
