Get 'er cleaned up and solid.
Does the VIN get stamped on the engine block? Thinking if the motor has a matching VIN, you can shut them down on that line if it comes up again.

They use to back in the day. Like my chevelle. I don't know if they did that up into the 80s.

Yeah I was thinking about how when we bought our 71 Cuda, the "numbers matching" thing was a big deal.

Yeah its a huge deal for the diehard muscle car people. I think it's all stupid. The number matching people are the people that ruined the muscle car markets. But i digress.
My chevelle was toted as numbers matching. Although I found that out to be false.

A stamp set and a little research and I can make anything "numbers matching".

But back to the truck, if the original engine is in there, the last 6 digits of the VIN would be on the stamping pad on the block. Not that any emissions shop rat would actually know where to look for that much less have the brains to comprehend what the hell it means.

I heard that @76zimmer has a numbers matching engine in his vette, maybe he can post a pic!?

I just thought it sounded like the tech was using the engine swap as an easy out. Thinking that if @shima has proof, then he can slam that door in their face.

I love what he did there. Having dealt with many a uppity Corvette purist it's perfect.

But as far as showing the VIN on the block it won't make the emissions shop relent. They need to check the boxes for what is there or not.

dont forget all the corvette engines swapped in to other vehicles . . . . out number the total amount of corvette's ever made by atleast a power of 2x . :doah:
Similar to the idea held most that know their stuff about fuel injected '57 Chevies. There are more FI '57's out now that were produced in 1957.

Also how the fender/ door gaps on a well restored car are 100% better the anything that rolled off the assembly line.
Especially on any mopar......

Are the rpo codes still in the glove box, if they are that will show the 454 as original. Doesn't matter if motor was changed as long as same size and type as original.

@Wes Harden yep it does. I left it at home when I went last time (it is broken), but I'll bring it along the next time I go to get the truck tested.

I am trying to do some research, it looks like I need the silver manifold attachments from Ron's picture and then nearly everything from USSKoval's picture. Perhaps I don't need the other full-size canister but no harm installing it to replace my half-size canister. From there I gotta figure out if anything else is needed... this air pump setup is intense...

The one sticker on your truck I have seen is evap emissions, so the smog tech will see it. You need both the full size and the half size canister, and appropriate hoses and valves

Personally, I'm not a fan of camper shells. I wouldn't run one unless you really need it for a specific purpose.

I could count on 1 hand the people I've seen using a camper shell for the purpose of camping.
