1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

Hoping to get a tune done on the computer soon...as soon as I can schedule some time with Josh at Team 208 Motorsports up here (he's really busy and out of town a lot). I'm interested to see what his tune can do on this thing.

You are running 4.10 axle gearing correct? That 8.1 doesn’t care, it would pull 2.73’s just fine.

Glad you had a good shakedown run.

Yeah, 4.10's with 285's. And it seems to be pretty darn good so far :pimp:

It will more then likely have more power then you know what to with.

That is what I'm shooting for :saweet:. The couple times I've hung out with Josh and he's talked to me about some of his tunes on the 8.1's he's done...it's got me pretty excited to get it on this one

I had 3.73’s and 285’s and I absolutely hated it. My goal was 4.10’s so I’m sure that thing loves that set up. Glad to hear the payout was rewarding.

Yeah, I was hoping the gearing would work out good (did a crazy amount of calculating before deciding on drivetrain years ago to try and figure out a good happy/medium), and I think it worked out good.

Lets just say I was getting a few looks driving this thing around town. Sure there are quite a few cleaner square bodies rolling around these parts...but not many like this truck. And the exhaust is loud enough, and the truck actually hauls ass enough...that I was getting lots of looks, haha. Lots of thumbs up from fellow rednecks

Glad to here it! I know that thing would turn heads around here. I almost look harder at trucks that aren’t perfect over show trucks. I like to see a truck being used as a truck.

I think the plan is drive down on Friday, June 8th, and drive back Sunday June 10th

Mine is 7700 lbs. Not sure that yours would have much less weight. And that was with the 350 700r4 NP241. Haven't weighed it since motor and trans swap.

Man, that's a bit heavier than I was thinking...even with the SBC...did you have most of all your stuff in the bed that you normally have to go wheeling (spare tire, tools, etc.)?

Here is what I'm guessing on weight for a GVW on everything this truck will see (which will really only happen once or twice a year, most times it would be a combination of trailer or camper, not all together every time):

Trailer empty: ~1500 lbs.
Blazer with tube doors on and no top on ready to wheel (tools/spares in back): ~6000 lbs.
Slide-in camper with gear/food inside it (factory says dry weight on it is 1600 lbs.): ~2500 lbs.
Crew cab weight with both tanks full: ~7500 lbs.
Total estimated GVW: ~17,500

That's in the ball park of what I was shooting for fully loaded. So thinking a tuned 8.1 with an NV4500 should tow that around just fine :saweet:.

I can't wait to get my camper. I'm going to have to get some pics of the setup with the camper in the truck, and hook the trailer up to it with the blazer on the back...if that won't say 'MERICA...then I don't know what will flagwaver

I only towed my setup once, but man was it absolutely awesome!!! So much going on to look at cruising down the road.

Yeah, and about 1/2 tank in each side. I'm sure I weight about 150lbs more than you, I'm guessing you go about 100lbs..... hehe

I don't know if I could pull 700lbs of stuff out, but maybe 500lbs. I've really pared down what I carry vs what I had in the K5.

It looks like a lot of my old pictures are starting to work on again (that are linked from photobucket)...has PB finally given up on their crap prices to use the 3rd party hosting's? Either way, should make it nicer for anyone looking through this thread from the beginning again...
