1989 Crew Cab Tow Rig Build

Here is a pic of the one I’m gonna pick up...you can see the major difference between the two. The new one I’m gonna pick up should work a lot better in my truck

I forgot to post this too. I deleted my oil cooler on this 8.1 by just plugging the two ports with 1/2” NPT plugs, but also, just out of percaution, I decided to remove the Oil Cooler Bypass Valve as I’ve heard of some that didnt remove this (after removing the oil cooler) and had this valve get stuck causing 0 oil pressure psi (to be fair, some have not removed it and never had problems, just FYI really). I just unscrewed the oil filter adapter (1/2” hex head socket), then took a longer bolt and force screwed it up into it, then kinda beat it out. Really wasnt that bad and now I have some peice of mind knowing its out. Just an FYI for anyone who might be reading this thread as a reference for their own 8.1 swap

FYI - 6.5L pedal bolts right up. Just need to re-pin the connector to match. I can get you the wiring changes later tonight if you like!

This is from a 2001 2500HD with a 8.1 that looks the same as the one you posted. Same color wires just in a different location as the 6.5 diesel.

Got the pedal figured out. The first pic below is the two pedals next to each other (bigger one wasnt going to work). So took the smaller one and did just a little bit of cutting and welding, and hammering to bend and mold the pedal where I wanted it. I think it turned out good

I'm so happy to see this come together finally. Now if we could just get some pictures of it doing truck stuff.

All in due time sir. I'm going down to Salt Lake at the beginning of June for my grandparents 90th birthday party (~5 hrs from my house). My brother and parents in CO are going over for it too. The plan is my brother is going to bring my camper over with him to UT so I can bring it home to my place finally. My goal is to have this thing at least dependable enough to make the drive down there to pick it up (if all else fails, I can bring the dodge, but I really want to bring this truck instead). So we will see. This weekend I'm going to work some more on wiring (and wiring routing to clean things up), getting gauges working, then work on getting it registered and insured. Then I think I'll drive it to work a few times a week to make sure things are doing alright. Then it will start doing truck things

Very nice! you've built a great truck. What shifter boot are you running? I need one similar to that for my Ford.
