1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

Good to see you back on Nick! :thumb:

Yea its been quite awhile, since new years ive quit smoking and started being pretty active. The blazer has become a full daily driver, so no real plans, time, and space to fix it but ive got some ideas on how i can make this happen this summer. My boss is fixing his one ton dodge and its supposed to become my takehome work truck. If that happens i can also borrow his new MIG welder. Im assuming itll be nicer than the flux. Now to do research on tailpan threads and get a list together of materials. The plan is to have the doors and front fenders done ( something else i need to research ), take a week off work and get it all done. I know the tail pan is going to be a hefty task enough. I am ordering new rear wheel wells and the apron that bolts on also, to save time not having to weld.

Damn, your tailpan has taken a beating since I saw it last just before you moved. I'd bet it had a lot of mud/debris packed in there, then the constant moisture on the coast went to work...

Glad to see you back to working on it! :zombie5:

Its worse in person. i feel like it was bad even when i was there. once the flakey blue painted crap was off, it was all pretty roted and gross inside. it definitely needs to be taken care of, i feel like there will be a lot of tedious little pieces to fix in that entire area.

Well we're keeping an eye again. Looking forward to updates

Tailpan is a bit of a pain in the ass, but the whole thing is available through LMC. There is a row or two of spot welds at the rear of the bed floor you have to drill out, then the welds at the corners have to be ground out, then remove body mount bolts from the rear.

The next part sucks, you remove the next few sets of body bolts enough so you can jack the rear of the body up so you can wiggle out the old and wiggle in the new...a bottle jack on top of each rear tire works really good.

The feller i got the fenders and doors from has a shop with his dad and they fix a lot of chevys, he orders from goodmark enough that they ship for free to him and said i could pick anything out of the catalogue and have it at the same price. Catch is i gotta drive up to "surrey by the sea" and get em hahaha. Its all the same dies and cuts anyway for REPO stuff isn't it? thinking of ordering the rear tailpan stuff through them. driving 3 hours is probably cheaper than LMC shipping.. one less piece of metal may help.... I also think i saw in a couple threads guys using thicker gauged box tubing instead of the structural repo piece?

More than a few guys have fabbed a tailpan. That's cool if you have the time and tools to do so...

Funny aside, one of my co-workers does some of his route not far from here in Namao. That isn't funny, but he can't seem to pronounce it right and calls that area "Nanaimo" instead. He isn't even from BC...

Anyways, the hard part of the tailpan fab is the tailgate attachment area. Get past that part and the rest is cake. Probably faster and less expensive to drive up to Nanaimo for the Goodmark piece IMO.

Gotta pay the price for wheeling eventually haha. Thankfully i got some fenders to sand down in the shed now.

Some bark eating hippy tried to steal his parking spot at the Vegan market. Mayhem ensued...then Nick went wheeling and hit a tree. :flipoff7:

We were wheeling out to a hydro dam out in northern sooke. Came to a hill and a friends jeep may never make it, so while reversing around some deadfall that was leaning across the trail, i hit a birch with my front end... But man all the stories above are WAY better! Way to ruin it hahaha

Well there's no pictures to prove anything

I think a Hippie fumbled a tofu loaf and it hit your truck down at the bark eater super market

okay okay... ya got me!
I was at a drum circle... trying to make it rain.. Obviously! When this hippie thought i stole his bark! He's throwing berkenstock sandles, and sage at me like i had never seen..meanwhile i was running away due the pandemonium that was going on... and then a hipster on a fixed gear bike ( with only the pedal brakes of course ) flew past me and hit my truck while snap chatting an " all vegan Lv.5 sawdust loaf " that he'd just bought to eat at the local " Red Barn " for 9.50$..

On a serious note im shopping for headers also, the highly recomended hedman elite 69830 are about 775 dollars.. Has anyone had any good headers for cheaper? My exhaust is causing me some problems so its goodbye y pipe and manifolds.
