1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

I believe you have one of the gears backward. The long side of the shaft gear goes toward the spindle.

i agree, but if i switch it around i now have 2 flat gear cogs trying to mesh...?
the skematic i saw had the longer side towards the spindle like you mentioned.

Might just have to do that. He's been out on the coast keeping a pretty low profile. I know he still has ol blue...but I also know he was trying to sell it for a while too. :dunno:

I don't know where he is at in his life right now. We used to talk all the time, now I hardly hear from him anymore.

Appears he’s got a lady friend. Seems as though I see more pics of his lady friend and their adventures than his k5 :rotfl:

@tRustyK5 , do we need to put @bix ‘s pic on a milk carton?

mmm milk... but yes i agree that might help. I have been living on the coast and the summer was full of adventures. Sadly the blazer didnt make it out on many of them. It even sat uninsured for the past couple months with no real money to put into it ( gas tank or parts ) and i did even post it for sale. Sadly what these things cost in alberta and what they cost in BC is quite different and i couldnt get many reasonable offers for it. It is insured again and it is driving around. Drove it for the past few weeks as ive been off work and it had gas in the tank so why not. Even took it to Pender island few days ago to split wood and do some chores around the ladys house out there.

My plans to sell it have pretty much dissipated as im in no way shape or form selling it for what i bought it for, before i put any work into it... As it sits i have a few things that are driving me nuts and probably not too expensive to fix. Transfer case is slipping out of gear, most likely the shift fork, (and pads) im assuming? and a battery draw thats leaving it dead within a few days if it sits. The current Amp draw is .06 amps. I have tried pulling fuses with a multimeter in series with the negative battery cable and post, and no results in removing the 60 mA draw. I found out my red top wasnt holding a charge anymore and bought a new battery and for now im just leaving it unhooked between travels. I do have a driveway to park it in, so dropping the transfer case and bringing it inside to work on shouldnt be a huge PIA.

As for life, moneys tight and this thing gets put on the back burner quite a bit. The rear end rust is getting worse and the trucks growing plants with all the rain here haha. I have made some progress in assuming the role of a crane operator again, and doing some work for the union up in northern bc. More money coming in would mean an engine swap like i planned or at least the rust repair would be doable and maybe even renting a garage could be possible if i find some people to split on it. Hopefully the union road works out and i can start making some decent coin soon, for the blazer and for my future.

haha id be lying if i said this wasnt true, just no updates on the truck for longer than i can remember. She loves the blazer and kept telling me not to sell it if i wont get my money back out of it, so im very thankful for that.

Also any info on seals that will need replacing when i disassemble the np241 would be awesome, as i can order those at the same time i find somewhere that sells the fork pads.

Awesome! I’m glad to see you’re alive and still have the blazer! Don’t sell it, you’ll regret it, you’ve had the Blazer through a lot of shit!

Yea I know I'd regret it.. but sometimes you think you'll have to live with regret to make the right decision. I'm happy it all worked out the way it has, and yeah it really has been with me through alot of moves, people, and even gave me one of my best friends. A new job in this new year will give me the ability to work on it.

I don't think passe ger drop shift forks are available. That looks like a driver drop fork. Hopefully your fork is ok and it's just pass.

Ahhh very true. Didn't even think of that, thanks! I was reading somewhere that said you should change both out. I guess I won't know until I drop it and see. I found an np241 for parts that ran good when dropped, 75 bucks and a 1.5 hr drive each way... do you know where I could source just the pads from? I had no luck finding the plastic pads anywhere

Make sure it's absolutely not your shift linkage before you go pulling it out and apart and find no internal issues. I had to do a tiny adjustment to my linkage for my NP208 cuz it would pop out of 4L when I would get under load.
I sure wish we had trees and scenery here like that in your pics. The mtns in Utah are pretty but down where I live it's desert and not much greenery.

This is the view when looking the opposite way on the property. I worked real hard to live where I am and it's probably the only reason I tolerate being quite poor hahaha.

It only pops out of 4hi and never 4L which has lead me to believe it's the fork, or pads. It's gotten worse as time has gone on. Now it will barely stay in 4h for a minute or two then pop out. But yeah you're right, once this baby is dropped there's no moving my blazer so that does worry me. I want to order at least the pads first before I drop it.
