1991 V1500 "The Yeti" - NEW crate 6.0 - FIRST START!

Your wife is far more understanding than mine. If I left her on the side of the ride in west Texas with the kids and a pistol to go run to an o’reilly’s to fix the vehicle I’d have come back to no family and a pile of smoldering rubble haha.

Glad you made it home. I just avoid I70 and I25 as much as I possibly can.

Your issue with the sputtering sounds like a possible fuel issue. Maybe the filter needs replaced or the pump is failing.

What was wrong with the first tensioner you got?

Martin

It wasn’t the right one.

Eh, she’s pretty understanding but in that situation there really wasn’t too many other options.

Maybe but the entire fuel system is essentially brand new and it only did that during a relatively short amount of time. The rest of the trip it ran 75 and I pushed to 85 a few times to pass people.

On the wheeling trip I made before Christmas the crew cab did a kind of bog or hesitation driving steady speed down the interstate on the way to meet up with the others that morning. It did it 2 or 3 times, and each time only lasted a few seconds. Never did anything like it again the rest of the day. Maybe you had some sort of similar oddball occurrence.

And unfortunately I live in a pretty flat area so I can't easily duplicate that situation. I might hook a trailer up to it and try to put it under a load up some of the hills that we have around here and see if I can simulate what happened. Who knows.

What I do know is that I'm looking at engine upgrades at the moment.

*Cough* big block *cough*

I'm considering all options BUT a buddy just swapped a rowdy LS crate engine into his LJ and I took it for a spin. While it's not the ideal truck engine it sounded so badass and was so much fun. I almost ordered one last night.

They can be fun. Just make sure you gear it accordingly to keep that thing wound up and in the torque curve.

I had some issues with mine bogging hesitating running ruff ect mine was egr related. Removed the vac line from my egr and plugged it. Never had an issue since check engine light comes on for the egr occasionally but i know what it is and ignore it.

I'll be deleting mine soon enough. I'll start searching around for a delete plate in a bit.

After driving to CO, I have a new found respect for the ol girl. I have been driving it a lot more lately and just enjoying the heck out of it. I'm still researching engine upgrades. Just can't commit to an option for what I want to do.

One thing that has been really annoying me is the "click" in the clutch pedal. Now there's no telling how worn that pedal is since I bought it used but what is the cure for that or is this just something that is considered normal?

I still vote TPI.

Martin

I go back and forth every 5 minutes or so. Right this second as I type this, I'm leaning towards Vortec heads on a stockish short block with that GM Vortec/TBI intake and calling it good. In about 5 minutes I'll want some sort of boosted big block or something.

There are bushings on the pedal pivot that might be plain wore out.

I replaced them when I installed the assembly. Might be something simple but it sure is aggravating.

They only sell a lower that is used in conjunction with the factory upper.

Pretty neat though.

Well, another trip is being planned as we speak. Las Vegas. Probably gonna go to Santa Fe, NM for a couple of days and then make our way to Las Vegas towards the end of Sep.

A few things I'd like to do to the ol' girl.

Fix rear AC. Las Vegas isn't known for being cool and if I end up bringing in-laws, there's gonna be a lot of hot bodies in the burb that will need to be cooled. The rear lines had rotted off. I talked to the local AC shop about bringing my lines in and having them cut them back to good metal and then reweld new tubing and fittings on to them. I have a new rear AC evaporator and expansion valve. Just need to get it all installed.

I also need to redo the headliner. Anyone have a suggestion for material that's better than the cloth stuff?

Cruise control. After swapping to the manual, the cruise no worky. I drove it all the way to Denver with no cruise and survived but I'd rather not do that again.

Steering box. Needs to get rebuilt. I would love to have the existing one redone but means the truck has to be down for a while. I could live without this but I will def try to make it happen.

Damn electric door locks don't work. Not the biggest deal but it's on the list.

Need a new spare.

I'm sure more things will be added.
