1991 V1500 "The Yeti" - NEW crate 6.0 - FIRST START!

More boring engine bay pics but they're progress pics.

Got the accessories buttoned up with the belt today. Also managed to get the radiator and fans bolted in. Still need to attach hoses and fill radiator but I'm holding off just in case it needs to come out again which is really possible.

Tomorrow I'll mess with throttle cable (bracket still hasn't arrived but I can get the cable run from pedal through firewall) and I'll modify the GMT800 air cleaner I bought and get it all strapped down so I can stop wrapping the throttle body up every day after I take my pics lol.

All the fuel lines are in and I really need to get that tank dropped. I'm hoping there's time for that tomorrow. Getting the tank down will be the majority of the battle considering it's essentially full.

I also need to mock up some pipes for the exhaust away from the manifolds for start up. I'm having a buddy do the full exhaust but his schedule is a bit booked so I'll rig something up for start up in the meantime.

Bought one of those crappy 50 dollar LS intake kits. Not at all designed for a 91 sub but I made it work. I ran it to the drivers side to clear battery and made a small bracket off the alt bracket to support it. Im not real thrilled about how I have the upper rad hose but I'm not trying to get any awards either. In the future I might do something different to clean it up.

Still a few loose ends to clean up. Tomorrow ill get the battery installed and run the cables and then do the fuel system. I'm planning on firing it on Sat. Won't be driving it since the clutch won't be hooked up but just getting it started will be a big deal.

I run one of these Gates Vulco-flex hoses on the big block. I was skeptical at first, its actually a really good hose. I was looking for certain dimensions because I have an aftermarket radiator, intake, and needed it to route around an alternator. I believe I found a spec sheet for Gates hoses and just ordered the part number from amazon. You may be able to find one that works well for your situation.

I've seen those and have one on a dentside Ford of mine. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. In this particular case, I think the upper hose will work fine, I just might have to tweak the position of the air cleaner a little if it ever becomes an actual problem and not just an eye sore. I appreciate the suggestion, however.

Nothing to report regarding firing it yet. I grossly underestimated how much time it would take me to get the tank out and mess with the entire fuel system.

In a previous post I think I mentioned that I had my bicep tendon reattached after tearing it back in Oct. I'm still recovering so my left arm is greatly limited to how much I can lift and what not. With 2 good arms, its easy to wrestle that tank out of the back of the sub but with 1 good arm, I had to get creative with straps, the forks on my tractor and a stack of blocks. It came out without anyone getting hurt or anything getting damaged but it took a while. It also had 20 gallons of fuel in it that I couldn't for the life of me get out. I should have just used the fuel pump and been a little intelligent about it but I was in a hurry and thought I could do it quickly. Oh well.

Once the tank was out, I got the fuel out and got the new pump together. Its one of those Walbro 255s.

Still have to run lines and I'm gonna mess with that today after I clean up a few things. Goal today is to get the lines run from the engine to the regulator. I will have my brother help me get the tank in so I don't have to strain and bust this tendon again so that will probably happen this weekend. I might slide it under and attempt to move it into position with the tractor forks and some straps but it's nice to have someone under there to guide things in place.

Finally got the hood on.

Fuel system is done. Took a few pics showing what I did. Nothing crazy but it works well. Off the fuel rail I have a 45 and it drops to the bellhousing where I made a small bracket to support it and guide it down to the frame rail where it just runs straight back to the regulator and then 2 more lines to the tank. Nothing overly complicated about it. First time using AN fittings. Just follow the instructions and it works out.

Once again, I'm super slow at finishing projects. Great at starting them. Just suck at finishing lol.

Anyways, my buddy and I have been messing with wiring and figuring out where to run everything. We did test the fuel pump today and pressurize the system to check for leaks.

I won't be able to touch it til Thurs and again on Fri so I should be able to get the wiring wrapped up (well, he's actually gonna mess with it tomorrow without me. It's at his house at the moment anyways.)

I have a bunch of stainless exhaust tubing on the way to my house also so that can get wrapped up at some point also.

I'm a few weeks late on firing it BUT it should be ready by this wknd. Maybe.

So, currently in order to drive it I need to get the speed sensor hooked up, clutch bled, make a few of my connections permanent like 12v igntion and such. Oil pressure and temp gauges are hooked up but ill get the rest hooked up and the OBD2 port mounted eventually. Just all those little things that take time but just to drive it won't take much.

I plan on driving it to the exhaust shop next week so I'll get it buttoned up enough to fo that.

Once I get the exhaust done I'm gonna slowly go through and replace the battery cables and get that tidied up. I also reused some of the wires like the original purple wire to solenoid, alt to bulkhead, etc so I want to replace those because they're old and also not quite the right length so they look pretty sloppy but I hooked them up to get the engine going.

Pretty pumped to hear it rattle to life. I still plan on taking it skiing in Feb and that's coming fast so I gotta get to work. I need to replace the heater core so I can get that system working cuz right now I have it bypassed. And then the AC. And then interior lol. Lots to do.

First short road trip complete. Ran down to Corpus Christi and back for a total of 363 miles. What's even crazier is that it got 15.4mpg running 70mph the whole time. Never got better than 10mpg with the TBI 350.

Anyways, was a good run and the only issue is that the tires are terribly out of balance so I'll need to deal with that very soon.

I think I've got roughly 700 miles on it since the swap. Had an odd idle issue that ended up being a vacuum leak where the MAP sensor plugs into the intake. Since I'm running a Gen 3 MAP in a Gen 4 intake, it wasn't the best fit so I found an O ring to slide onto the MAP that tightened things up. No more idle issues.

Washed it for the first time in forever and it cleans up pretty well. Def a sleeper. I had to get really aggressive with the wheels with one of those drill attachments cuz the brake dust was really stuck on there but overall it cleaned up well.

So, I have a long list of things that need to get done on this rig before I can even begin to call it finished. I need to finish the underhood wiring. That's going to include putting some split loom on the fan wiring, securing loose wires better, and finish going through the bulkhood wiring to remove anything not being used. Then there's the matter of heat and AC. I am going to drop the inner fender and remove the HVAC box and get the evaporator swapped out and I also need to install the new heater core.

Once the underhood wiring, AC and heat are complete then I can focus on the interior. Still debating on new carpet but it's not the worst idea. All the doors need weather stripping so that should probably be the first thing I do just to get rid of some of that road noise.

So I need to find the best place to buy all that stuff and get after it.

I've been driving it to work all week and it's pretty enjoyable to cruise. Next time I top it off I'll check mileage again to include city and highway cruising. I'm kinda curious.

Oh, and I still haven't hooked up the SEL or speedo. Maybe that should be first.

Dang you were quick! That thing was marked sold in under three hours.
