1998 2wd to 4wd, CCLB SAS

Well said as usual Steve. But I'm stuck in the middle. I like my diesel and I like big blocks. I've owned both and they are both great. I think the best end goal is to just have one of each lol.

Very true. In fact, I would love to have a early to mid-2000's duramax. They are great motors, and the Allison is a great tranny, however their costs are so inflated I'm not gonna do it now. Maybe one day if they come down, or I found a complete steal for one, I'd buy it, then in that case I would have a BBC and Diesel tow rig ;).

I will say, my brother is contemplating selling me his current semi after he's done building his new semi. Then I would have a modern BBC swapped square body, and a Medium Duty diesel semi to tow with...that would be pretty neat :D

Sorry for the hijack, so back to this build. Truck is awesome man, love the look and love that it puts in work :waytogo:

Ready to get back to the build to, just waiting on parts. Ordered my small parts yesterday, u joints, u bolts for the drive shaft, axle seals that kind of stuff. Got my axles, carrier, lockouts and pinion yoke a few days ago, now just need gears and the time to work on it and will have 4 wheel again. So ready for that. This is the first 2 wheeler I've owned ever and I'm ready for 4 wheel again lol.

You’re building your own transfer case adapter correct? What output shaft do you have? I’ve looked around on the Internet but can’t find an adapter for a fixed yolk output shaft.

Ya going to build my own. I have the long fixed output shaft, so adapter should be a few inches longer then a stock one. That way I can clock the case where I want it to.

Nice, i got the same one. I’m looking forward to seeing it I’ve been trying to figure out how to do one for mine without having to buy a new output shaft

I'm hoping to get it built here soon, shops been busy so haven't had time yet. Will post pictures as soon as there's some more progress though.

So ran into a possible problem i cant decide on. looking at my transfer case today, and it dawned on me that the t case is setup for a slip yoke and the driveline in my truck now is a fixed yoke. Havent been able to find parts to convert the t case to fixed yoke. So thinking the yoke on the front of the driveline now might not work with the output on the t case. Can convert the driveline yoke to a slip yoke, my concern there is will it cause problems with my carrier bearing, not having the front yoke fixed? Thought about drilling and tapping the output shaft to be able to bolt the fixed yoke to it, but imagine that shaft is hardend, anyone know for sure?

They make the drill and tap fixed yoke kits for 208 tcases and I think some of the others also. Should work fine to drill and tap it as long as you go slow and be careful. It's probably only hardened on the outside and not all the way through. Do not try to do a slip yoke output with a carrier bearing. My father in law tried that when he cummins swapped his super duty and it did not go well. Not sure what drop you are running on your front axle but I got an email on this new product the other day. https://torqueking.com/product/6620...kit-for-married-nv271f-nv271d-transfer-cases/ I'd like to try it if I convert my 2x4 dually into 4x4 and then I could use an easily found and cheaper super duty front axle. They have kits for the super duty tcases and the dodge 3rd gen truck tcases which are all really popular and cheap to find.

What tcase do you have for the conversion? Do they offer that in a fixed yoke version that you could just convert it?

I'm going to try and drill it today see if I can. It's a bw4401, it does come in fixed yoke style but I couldn't find just the parts to convert it.

I'm running the same t-case. I just got lucky and found a parts one that is fixed yoke.

Well problem solved. It drilled out real easy actually, not hardened all the way through. Have to pull the bolt in my yoke now to get the threads and I'll tap this one to match. Hopefully have some time to build the adapter soon. Still looking for gears if anyone knows of any.

I missed the update on drilling the output shaft. Good to know it was easy to drill. I would like to drill and convert my NP208 since I need a new rear driveshaft anyways.

So still no progress. Shop is starting to slow down with winter coming so haven't had extra funds, still just looking for gears though.

Truck is doing great though. Just rolled over 200,000 miles, running like a champ. Hauled 3 cords of wood home yesterday.

So I found gears finally, ordering them today so should be here this week. The list is getting shorter.

GWeakland620, is yours all functional now? Looks like I'm going to need to modify the trans crossmember for drive shaft clearance, was curious to see one already done.

Gears are on the way, and got a start on the t case adapter today. 4 wheel drive is so close I can taste it lol. Hopefully the rest of the project goes smooth, and quick, a move to Montana is in the works for first part of the year if all goes to plan.

T case adapter all mocked up, ready for final welding. And t case output drilled and tapped, did have to make a spacer to hold the yoke out a little bit but it's now a fixed yoke output. Few more modifications to the trans cross member then I expected to keep the t case off the cab but it fits beautiful now. And was able to clock the case up a bit to so it's not hanging to far below the frame.

Back on it tomorrow, hoping to knock out the Fab work, then gears get here Saturday.
