2000 GMC SAS: Hydro assist assistance

Loaded up the Trailer and took the GMC and the KTM and dirtbike to the dunes this weekend. Spent most of the time in the GMC. Sand was wet, truck did great. It couldnt make some of the bigger dunes, need some more power. Went everywhere else it was pointed, had a lot of fun. More fun than I thought a truck would be in the dunes. Here's some pictures, I've got some gopro videos from in the truck but they arent very exciting. It looks horribly slow, but it sure felt fast.

Cool pictures! Trucks are a blast in the sand, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :)

That looks like ideal conditions too, I love it when we get a little rain and wind out in the dunes, it gets things nice and smooth.

Here's a quick video. Just picked some music to cover up the gopro rattle. Had the waterproof back on because it had been raining. That and my truck is pretty quiet with the 70 series. Anyhow...

I cant figure out how to embed the video, so here's a link:

Quads are my first love, but this truck at the dunes thing might become more common. I've had both of my diesel 3/4 ton trucks out in the dunes to rescue my quads and a few broken buggies, but I cared about those. It was nice to go out and flog a truck out there without worrying about it.

Oh dunes... How i cant wait for april first :D great pics man!

Why wait? No time like the present!

Here ya go.

All you paste inbetween the little [youtube] things is this part "yZNErUkxrBw&"

Our dunes are gaited off till april 1 unfortunately :(

That sucks! Ours never close. I've been in the snow, in the ice, in the rain, in the freezing cold and in the blistering heat. When you need a sand trip you need a sand trip!

how much was that front shaft and who did you get it from, i need 23.5 center to center and all slip, one end needs to fit a 241 and the other a 78 ford dana 60

Tom Wood's built the shaft. High Angle also had some options around the same price. I believe it was in the $400 range.

I was hoping to update this with pictures from my first (and probably only) mudbog I planned to attend this coming weekend. Instead, while texting a friend about said mud bog, I ran the truck off the back road I was on and broke it. I guess I probably should have put a brace on that 205 after all. Parts are on the way, I might make it by the weekend if I'm lucky.

Anyone else ever broke one like this? I figured its from the 205 being unsupported and taking a big hit like mine did.

Thank you for reminding me to brace my 205!! :) Oh yah and don't text and drive

Yup that seems to be how they always break. Had my buddies do that a month or so ago. The day before the dunes opened. Made it out though in time. You can do it!

Its fixed. Big thanks to tranzman for getting the adapter out to me. Didnt make the mudbog as I've been sick, but I got to feeling better and fixed it over the weekend. I had to put the stock tires back on it to get it low enough for the transmission jack. In an attempt to get the trans up to operating temperature to see how much fluid it lost I went for a drive on said 30ish inch tires. Then this happened...

First...Second....Third. Apparently a 6 liter has plenty of power for stock tires and 4.56 gears.

My birthday is next week, I'm thinking about taking it to the dunes to celebrate. I put my drag bike back together, I need an excuse to go run it a bit as well.

I want to get some tail lights for it and put the tailgate on before that though, so it might be a few more weeks.
