2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Did a little more work tonight while I wait on parts. Pulled this bracket back off to drill a hole behind for access to the shackle bolt. Bolted it back up and threw a coat of paint on it.

I'm really digging your suspense-building assembly method. Truly 'one piece at a time'.

I bolted up more than 1 bracket today. Frame brackets are on, done, and painted. Bushings are installed in the springs and the shackle. Also had to cut off the exhaust. Rusted/fused together and just didn't want to try and fight to save it. Plus, who doesn't want to put new exhaust on?

Next on the list is cutting and unbolting the old suspension.

looks good, I like the methodical progress keeping the vehicle useable.

Can't wait to SAS my 2 door Tahoe. Those BJ Ferd Dana 60's seem to be going up in price lately. Maybe it's summer inflation.

I put the METH in methodical...

I get a decent price on these 60's, but you're half way around the world :(

Today's findings:

I need more leafs lol. Didn't even start to lift the truck up at all.

Interesting. Are you aiming for negative arch? That would be normal for a tired old leaf-sprung 1/2-ton truck, but that's not what I thought you were wanting. This will make a difference in my height estimations, but I still think you're going to get a lift out of this. :pimp:

This is the "crossing the Rubicon" moment. Though that seems like the wrong metaphor here.

Good work, Greg. We're all proud of how you took a functioning truck and turned it into a giant paperweight. :haha: Can't wait to see it on the road again. :thumb:

I am going to leave the coil buckets there. I will try to use them as a bump pad area possibly. just don't want to cut them out quite yet.

As for springs, I will be looking for a 3 pack 3/4 or 1 ton springs. Or I will be going the route of buying new ones from generalspringkc.com

But either way, I want the springs flat or just a hair on the positive side.

And yes campy, I make very good paper weights.

Oh yeah, as for the control arm brackets.

The upper ones will be repurposed as mounts for removable shock hoops. The rears are coming off for sure.
