2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
Couple technical questions - why bother pulling the axle out instead of just swapping springs in place? And did you really hang the calipers from their rubber hoses? :zombie19:

Nice results, though. :waytogo:

Yeah don’t do this. Especially old stock hoses which are more likely to be brittle. I usually use a zip tie or a bungee or something to put it up out of the way
Lol I don’t usually do that. It fell right when I took the picture.

looks perfect, nice work!
Thanks. I’m pretty happy with the results. Not 100% where it needs to be, but much more tolerable now.
Autocorrect knows you all too well... :haha:
Yeah I just noticed that too haha.
@GWeakland620 back on the glow pugs

When I was servicing the old 6.2/6.5 and 6.9/7.3 trucks, the factory set was always the best. On each of these we started replacing the pugs late in the fall so they’d be new for winter.
We experimented with changing the controllers after we got to one a years, which seemed to help (but at a cost)
My plans are to got back to factory. As this point I’m not sure what I got off of eBay now.

It really was just as easy to pull the axle all the way. Only 2 or 3 extra bolts. Plus I was still messing with bushings as they were not correct from Tuff Country.
Nice job! Looks way better. I love that truck.
Thanks I love the truck too. Now to make it act 4wd and not just look the part lol.

Its looks awesome with the low lift and 33s, looks proportionate. With all these low SAS's coming around, I'm have tempted to sell my fat 36s/rims and springs and go low, but still like lifted trucks....

Oh trust me, my inner kid that likes mud wants to put a few more inches on this and throw some 35’s or 37’s on it, but all practicality goes out the window st that point.

Put some cut out flares on it and some wider rims, then only lift is from the taller tires. But looks like you just painted it....

I did not paint it. Just a new white bed we bought a few months back.

But I do want to keep factory flares. The goal was to do upgrades that look factory but a bit custom.

So? How do they ride?
Not near as harsh overall. Still a bit bouncy but it is a 1 ton truck. I imagine the regular springs, not the TC HD springs, ride even better. They most definitely flex a lot more. Overall I’d say it was a 50% increase in ride quality, ORD being 100% better. I wish I had done these to start off with, inturn saving money to go with ORD’s but I didn’t. The wife is happier and I am too so it’s a win in my book.
