2004 Silverado Crew Cab Solid Axle Swap (LLY with ZF 6 speed)

Well, the test drive is over. EGTs barely went over 1000F with the autometer gage, VVT seemed to be functioning normally.

I'm going to put the other probe back in and plug it back into the Edge monitor to make sure something else didn't spontaneously fix itself. Then I'll be calling Edge up to see about getting my monitor fixed...

I reseated all the connections and tested again with the CTS2 monitor. Still reading high. The Autometer showed idle around 300 where the CTS shows 400+, not sure what's going on.

I tried to call Edge support but I didn't get through before they closed.

Sounds like you are on to something. Curious to hear what the edge folks have to say.

Thought an exhaust being plugged up would cause high egt's also? You had any looking around in that?

That's where I was going with the stuck vanes, if they were stuck shut that would be like a clogged exhaust.

I'm fairly certain at this point that there is something wrong with my Edge CTS2 monitor or the EAS adapter thing that it plugs in to since EGTs look normal with the Autometer in place and I don't have any other symptoms other than the high EGT reading.

I got ahold of Edge today, they had me upgrade the software and then they factory reset it remotely.

It still doesn't read right.:angry1:

Just got off the phone with them again and they had me do a weird test. Rolling 2 windows up at the same time (while they already up) makes the gauge read the correct temps. He said this is due to a bad ground, so I guess I'll run some new ground cables. It wouldn't be surprising if I damaged a ground somewhere.

weird. I wonder how long it took someone to come up with that particular test.

I would have been expecting the next step to be something like "OK, now open the glove box, but not enough so the light turns on, push the radio power button with your nose while you swing the drivers door open and closed with your left hand and tap the brakes so the lights flash" The whole time the whole office is listening and cracking up.

Seriously though grounds are an often overlooked cause. Typically when a car came into the shop with a broken clutch or E-Brake cable the first thing I would look at was engine to chassis and battery grounds. My rail with FI is a real pain and I 100% believe the PO didn't properly ground and isolate things.

Well, that didn't last long... Bent the new HD tie rod and ram on the first trip out.

I'm not entirely thrilled with how difficult it was to fit the high steer in the crew cab and having to limit up travel, but then I remind myself it's better than dealing with bent tie rods.

Bringing this thread back from the dead for some upgrades and repairs! While chasing a coolant leak I had to pull the turbo off so I figured, while I had the engine disassembled that far I may as well do the ARP studs and updated head gaskets that I have on the shelf too.

During disassembly I learned that the LLY FICM is cooled by fuel???

WTF Isuzu.

Engine stripped down.

I'm doing a few upgrades along with the studs. Here's the new drivers side exhaust manifold that eliminates the unnecessary restriction that was supposed to help it clear the steering column.

I also picked up a billet compressor wheel to get installed while the turbo is out for rebuild. This should make the turbo spool up MUCH quicker. It doesn't really increase power, it just improves the torque curve in the lower RPM range.

I completely disassembled the heads and cleaned them.

Then I lapped each of the 36 valves, cleaned up again and reassembled.

I've got Bosch remanufactured injectors that have been flow matched on the way. I'm hoping to have the heads back on in the next day or two and start the reassembly process. More pictures later.

Doing injector cups while it's apart too?
The fuel cooling ecm thing has been done forever in the big truck world. I think Cat has always done it as well as others.

Just got done doing studs and head gaskets on my 07 , I replaced drivers side exhaust manifold as well , not a fun job.
