3/4 Ton Swap is DONE: **d-shaft question**

:haha: maybe i'll roll out to the garage in a few days and start throwin somethin together to make you guys jealous.

Just don't include a D60 and 39 irocs and we wont have any problems mainly b/c Ive got one of these wallets.

damn... so you threw out the 60. guess that means i gotta break out some of the other goodies hiding in the garage that nobody knows about. :haha:

yeah...why am I the only one gettin' dirty lately?
Get crackin' beater...let's get that '92 on the road...

Ok...I just got home from dinner so I'm heading back out. My goal is to get the old axle out and get the new axle prepped and ready to go in...then if I'm feelin' good I'll go ahead and put the new one in and get it bolted down...
Then tomorrow I'll just have to get the rims swapped, bleed the brakes and hook up the d-shaft....for as much crap as it's taken to get to this point it sure feels good...

u aint got school tomorrow right?? so why not pull a late night and do it all?? well besides the tire part, unless u know how to demount tires and remount them by hand. dude id pay money to see u do that. u need to learn on a golf cart tire, its a b*tch.

oh yeah... i should probably update the sig. the 92 is staying 2wd, and the 93 is getting sfa now. :haha:

either way, i've got 3 trucks to maintain/modify, a full time job, and my mods are drastic, not bolt ons like yours. :deal:

Wrecked many a tire doing it with prybars, bought a proper tire mounting kit, and haven't wrecked a tire since. Why bother paying some shop to mount and balance tires when you can do it yourself with a bottle of rubber pellets for balancing, and a can of WD40? :P

same guy who couldnt knock a dle off with a hammer... and you want him to mount tires with prybars? :haha: :haha: :haha:

So? Every situation is different...there is no way to compare stuff like this since all of our trucks have different backgrounds.
Plus I got the right tool and got it off (two of them actually)...I see no place for gettin' on me for that. :wink1:

Ok everyone I've got good news and bad news...
The good news is I got the old axle completely out and everything went pretty smooth...

The bad news is that it looks like I'll be swapping steering arms tomorrow...it was getting too late to be running tools and such and it's cold so we called it a night...not bad progress but I'm not looking forward to swapping that arm...
The old one is raised about two inches or so and the one on the 3/4 ton 10b I'm putting in is not only flat but it drops about an inch...so we're talking about 3" or so worth of height difference.
I got things in place and checked but it's just too far for my drop pitman arm so it looks like I don't have a choice...I've read the horror stories of getting them off but I'm hoping I can just hit it with the chisle and see what happens...

so wait... you've got a dropped dragling, a dropped pitman arm, AND a raised steering arm on that? isnt that BAAAAAD news? :dunno:

No just a drop pitman arm and a raised steering arm...
Thanks for the support buddy...I've been reading up on some old threads...doesn't look like there is a specific way to get it off other than take the bolts off (which I did tonight...the three on top) and then take your pick...either hit it with the hot wrench, smash it with a BFH, pry it off, etc....any suggestions or are you just going to sit back and laugh?

iwaxmyjimmy: I am swapping them...that's the point...if you have ever done it you'd konw that it's a PITA supposedly.
Oh and X-over would be nice but it isn't in the budget or time restraints right now...plus I'd have to track down a flat top knuckle and have it machined along with a 2wd steering box because I don't think I could swap the sector shaft out on mine...
Either way it's too many parts and too much $$$ right now...that'll be another good project down the road though...but for now I need to get this done and get new tires and get the tranny rebuilt since I smoked it going to Pismo.

never done it but post some pictures of it might be able to give u a clever idea. also beater man u must have some money in tools. matco lol i hear ya big balla. ive only got about $1500 in my set and thats just box and sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and some odd ball tools for when i buy stuff when i need it. all chraftsman though, i bought alot of it at 16 and has been a great investment.
