5.9 Cummins link thread....

One of these should work on the cummins either with or without air compressor. Just need the correct drive and front cover setup.

Then run your York off the serp belt and an a/c compressor. There are a ton of different a/c and alt mount setups. I think the one that is usually ran in a square is the high mount a/c bracket and alt mount.

This is high dollar aftermarket one but factory stuff is similar, this pic is missing the fan drive in the middle.

This is a more homemade one I think.
Thses below are factory setup on a freightliner but something similar with the York on the driver side and everything else on the pass side.

These p/s reservoirs are pretty popular with semis. Usually just pipe threaded female ports on the bottom and a filter inside. Pretty cheap used.

oh, it's a gear driven pump, duh... ok, cool... guess that one i posted was for a gasser...

yeah the A/C and York are definitely add-in's.. so i'll have a bit of time to figure out best locations and whatnot... guessing alt down low on ps side, high A/C than the york over on the ds side...

1-1/4 Is stock and sufficient for many people. It does mean a new hub in the clutch disc but we are talking high torque levels.

My local builder took a shit chevy core and built a dodge unit out of it. I seriously doubt you need a built trans but go big right?

Also I don't know what others have to say but I have never seen a 5th gear issue on chevy 32 spline outputs. Anyone have any insight?

Do you need vacuum for anything? If not I always wanted to go the medium duty route and do an air compressor and a "real" power steering pump. Not sure how well they would clear the motor mount setup though and the frame on driver side. This one's a Tu-Flo 550 which is a 2 cyl big guy. They do make a 1 cyl version but I have never seen one on anything. I did just see that they have some pretty slick looking a/c comp air comp setups for the cummins. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/tow-rigs-trailers/1673042-cummins-swap-parts-thread.html too bad the pics are all gone. This guy has a shit ton of useful cummins part numbers and info.

If you want to run a setup like that you have to use the front engine mount and the ones on the sides of the bellhousing adapter. Which isn't hard to do, just very different then a normal pickup engine mount.

i read that last night, that only the dodges had a 5th gear problem.... i haven't delved into exactly how and if i'll need to worry about it.. i know there's a couple good ways to address the issue.. need to read up on the fixes.. the other one will be the dowel gig on the 6BT..

the other thing i read is, i think it was high impact maybe, that they redo all their 4500's with GM shift setups on top.. not sure what the advantage/dif is over the dodge components...

i definitely don't think i need/want that 1 3/8 shaft.. sounds like more difficulty getting clutches, and my power needs will be modest i would guess for a 6BT..

LIKE A BOAT!!!!!!!!!!! :haha: :haha: :saweet: :saweet:  :doah: :woot: :pimp: :doah: :doah: :haha:

actually, that makes sense, the spot they run the mechanical ps pump is where we run the raw water pumps in the marine apps...

ah, ok.. looks like the best fix for 5th gear is the updated, full spline main shaft? guess that'll be an important consideration into what i do... what are some of the "cheesier" fixes someone may have done?

Yep, exactly like a boat! :haha: you'll feel right at home with it like that.

I think I have heard a lot of people just tighten it down and weld the nut but I do not know for sure.

hmmmm, it's conceivable that i might have an in to a used marine front mount.. but the idea scares me from at least an exhaust standpoint alone... let alone the mounts, x-members, etc.. :doah::yikes:

right, that rings a bell... i thought i remembered one with a clip or something maybe... so it is something to keep in mind.. finding a stoopid cheap core, than/or just getting gthe right "built" box from someone, might be the way to go... not sure yet who's doing the badass'dess  :saweet: builds yet... :pimp:

I've never ran a dual disc clutch in a pickup but I have heard they can be a bit noisy and some have a harsh engagement. South Bend makes good clutches though.

South bend Clutch is a good source for flywheel, pressure plate and clutch. My GM 205 input, GM NV4500 output and GM round pattern cast iron tail housing is from ORD. I don't think there is any up grades for the GM NV4500 output OD nut. GM's 135 HP diesel engine never gave the OD nut any grief. :haha: There is more options available for the dodge Nv4500 output shaft overdrive nut. I put the GM diesel dampener on the output shaft. Dodge puts dampener on the drive shaft, most people throw the dampener away. I think allot of The 5th gear nut problems has to do with how you drive.

The full spline main shaft is a great option however I have seen it back off. My shop builds our nv4500s with our name on em with this setup. http://fifthgearrepair.com/nv4500repair.html and as an installer, southbend is our preferred clutch.

Do no do not weld to an output shaft. It will become a banana and bend even with little tac welds.

yeah, that may be a bit overkill for my intentions... definitely want decent street manners.. i just saw that it would hold the 400 hp i was looking for in the end..

that's the thing i was trying to remember, thanks... can that be used in conjunction with the upgraded shaft for even better bulletproofableness? i see it says it doesn't need it...

I believe the full spline just means it's splined all the way under the 5th gear so it should be able to be used in conjunction with the repair nut.
