64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

Had a buddy help me today put the pinion seal and yoke back on the diff. He held the diff and kept the pinion from turning while I pulled the torque wrench to 125#. rotational torque is 8in/lb. w the used bearings. Feels smooth!
Video used for consultation w the diff builder. He wanted to make sure there was no play in the bearings at 125#.

They are both good, it totally depends on the application.

For this light car I think a SBC makes sense, and, these days the new SBC is the LS, however, the LS doesn't fit this old girl with the sidepipes and the sweet old body lines. So I am glad that he kept the 355, and I think the Stealth EFI fits it perfectly. I think I would treat the 355 to some aluminum heads and a hydraulic roller cam, but I like whatever Dave does with this thing and there's something to be said out of performance with stock iron heads, it's a a truly awesome car. The first time I ever saw it in person I was impressed, and I still feel that way to this day about that car.

Well I’ve received an offer thrown into my lap that I couldn't turn down. After much discussion the last week, Ive decided to part out the Maiden as I haven’t really used it since BB20. I’ve had a lot of enjoyment with the build, the seemingly never ending transmission issues, and a couple great trips to Moab, as well as the dunes, and a few offroad parks. But the years are racking up fast for this old man, and I want to see some other projects get completed while I still can….So A buddy (anybody remember Tom?) is building a 68C10 offroader w his kid that he will use my drivetrain and many supporting parts in. That should give me a several grand to put to good use on the Vette, so….here we go!
Changing directions and going w an all new engine. LS3. 415 c.i. w the Holley terminator system on it. Light weight in this car just makes sense. Not looking for down low big block big cubic inch torque for this car, rather upper rpm power instead, and the stout LS platform makes sense and should be a good fit. I will dress it to look retro SBC, including the Holley Terminator system and using some LS swap headers to mate with the sidepipes. Should look the same from the side profile. Heath has ordered a new Dart shortblock and heads to get started on the new engine build. Stay tuned, I got a lot of work to do, and gotta go easy on the shoulder for a couple months yet, but thats where friends come in right?

Toms kids truck and a general idea of what the LS3 will look like.
