64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

That's why I laugh emoji'd that post.... It was DEFINITELY an April fools joke lol.

Not about parting the maiden. Never know there....

But there was NO way Dave was putting an LS in the Vette lol. It's still semi warm out, so hell hasn't frozen over yet. :thumb:

The funny thing is the last few months you been posting about 427 SBC it was already here.... :rotfl:

You gonna machine the spot off so you can stamp your message back into the block ID spot again?:deal::popcorn:
I told him he should upgrade it to "F4ck off Slow Poke".

Numbers matching is slow. :D

As much as I love the traditional small block in there with the creative stamping on the block for the purists, I totally get the idea of putting in an LS3 for the pure power per pound side. Kudos for going the extra mile to style it up like a traditional small block. Plus we know you aren’t one of the new balance, Jean short wearing average corvette guy putting the car over to a cars n coffee deal on Saturday morning with your lawn chair in the back. This car will still be flogged down the track, driven hard as it should be.

Sad to see maiden go, but totally get the reasoning. Plus it’s just going to make the Vette better/faster/stronger in long run.

Huh... The nerve... Hiding a new engine from your buddies :shame:
Who would do such a thing? Lol.

Are you going to put OEM 427 badges on the Vette to confuse people now

I think you missed a post haha

The LS3 would be somewhat lighter with the aluminum block, but this 427 SBC has almost 50 more cubes to work with, and with the Dart heads it will likely make more power and torque than even the 525HP LS376 crate engine.

Also, parting out the maiden was only yesterday, now on April 2nd that isn't happening... ;)

Heard that rumor may or may not be true, depending on the day you ask

As the guy who was sitting on a Dart SHP block for 6 months before saying anything :dunno:

I whole-heartedly approve knowing about this SHP block for the last few months

Also, having a small block that swings well into the 500 lb/ft club is kinda fun...

It's going to be awesome Dave, 427 SBC is the perfect engine for that car, the cubes of an old 427 BBC with the weight, looks, and sound of a traditional SBC.
Well, you know it was an easy decision to make. Not necessarily a logical one, or a good investment, but I aintgetting no younger, time to make dreams happen!
While the 355 ran damn good for an all iron 60’s engine, I’ve always wanted another 427 engine. That first 427 BBC that I built for this car ended up with a cracked block before I ever even drove it. So back to the SBC that came with the car when I bought it. After a couple years of running around on a ragged out engine (but still ran pretty good) it was time to do a complete rebuild of it, and its been a constant improvement project ever since. No regrets.1743611133591.jpeg

I’m assuming the engine ID pad is blank being a new block, no plans to add anything at this point. If they cant figure out this isn't an oem block, they shouldnt be looking that far anyway.

Rob, not that an LS3 would be a bad choice, its a stout platform right out of the box, but I just can’t get on that train for this car. This Dart 427 will be a stout piece as well. With my desires and Heaths direction, there will be lots of top shelf parts going into this build.

Its taken a few months to get all the spec’d parts delivered, but it should be a great combo for street and strip.
No fender badges, or drilling holes in the hood for the 427 emblems, but Ive been looking at the oem numbers for maybe having @mrk5 making a few decals to use on the hood.
I have some air cleaner decals already to give a little hint of whats going on under the chrome. No turbojet, just the 427 with the crossed flags decal and a separate 425 HP decal.

Thanks Dean!
Will be making a little progress on it now as my shoulder ability allows. PT said I’m making good progress on shoulder range of movement and will have my 12 week recheck w the surgeon assistant on the 10th. I think at that time I will move to phase 3 of the rehab plan.

I had a buddy come over today to help me put the 355 and pass side header back in to figure out exactly where I need to make access through the frame and bung placement on the header. The diagonal line on the frame will be the wire routing inside the frame. Looks to be a tight fit between the header bung and the hole for the O2 sensor. The bung will be about 4” downstream of the end of the individual tubes inside the collector. Should be a good spot for it although the frame may disagree…

Also took the pinion nut back off to add some locktite to the threads, then stake the nut. Position marked for further reference.
