67 Shorty 8.1, 4l80 and more

Either way you need a 241 and a 205.
Either way you need drive shafts made or modded.
Either way you need a one off crossmember(s) to match your chassis.
Either way you need custom shifters.

Eco box way saves length, has more exhaust routing options, simplifies crossmember design, should be stronger overall.

241+ divorced 205 saves cost of eco box, allows (potentially) for equal length driveshafts. Seems like it would be harder to set up, but easier to fix later. Requires a 3rd shaft between the 2 cases.

This is the exact kind of info/opinions I was hoping for. Another thing I thought of is the extra money spent on the middle shaft would offset the Ecobox purchase a couple hundred.

So end goal is the question. I'm not necessarily convinced one way is cheaper, or better. I would think that the 3rd shaft of the divorced setup would be weaker than a married arrangement. Sending low range power through ujoints into another gear reduction unit seems like that would be the obvious fail point. Maybe having the ujoints there would act as a fuse. Maybe a good thing.

This part and the additional cost of the 3rd shaft has me leaning towards the Ecobox.

What I like about a bolt up box, it's easier to assemble than a u joint set-up. Like to think an assembly is more solid

Keep in mind the Magnum prototype was not entirely different than what you envisioned, the front of a 241 case and a block off for the back. But quickly became the integrated piece

Like I said, I'm not convinced that one is cheaper or better.

Time-wise?

Eco box wins. Magnum wins even more.

Time is money, so is the extra money of the magnum worth the time of the eco box?

I'm a junkyard dog like you Ron, I think that the answers to these questions are found in the stockpile of parts over the time factor..

But can you have a front facing pto built-in that could be used simultaneously while moving with the eco/magnum?

cant think of what you could actually do with that (pulling yourself out while winching?) probably wouldnt really work out in reality, but just thinking outside the box.

eco/magnum are sweet options, whatever you decide

anymore i would skip a 203/205 and go magnum/205 my self . true 3 speed box with good middle ratio . only reason i did the 2 203/205 combos was i had the parts and scored a great deal on the new leftover doubler kit from some guy .

I have been slacking off and I last drove this about 2 years ago.
Dropped in a battery and cranked it until the oil pressure came up.
Hit the key again with a small shot of starting fluid and she lit right off and idled surprisingly well considering it has 2 fouled plugs. Parts guys give me the deer in the headlights look when I ask for non-foulers and I can't find em on the net either.
I gotta quit losing interest in projects, even though it came out to high, this thing is cool to drive
and 40s might make it look better?

I have a few if I can remember where I put them

So, even though thing thing is barely drive able I have a small project I wanna do with my grandson while he is in town.
Operation Restore Gauge Cluster's.

We are doing this one and one for the Crawlabago, he don't know it yet.
I would like to figure out how to add some lighting to the bottom of this.
We will also modify both to volt vs amp gauge. I wish I could find something digital that looked good.

By the way I have a couple of the first gen Guage clusters if you need anything from them

My son got both of our '72s changed over to voltmeters years ago. The guy quit shortly after, but he was using voltmeter gauges from a square. I believe that he had a vinyl overlay for the gauge.

That's perfect. Thanks!
I know I could handle the gauge part, just gotta figure out some volt overlays.
