I just used my old crimpers, they have the square notches in the middle. Don't forget to solder everything or get lazy and just not. Don't get rid of your old harness either I ended up re-using some of the connectors they just seemed better to me.

I think they make a better connection and nicer looking job. I added a lot more circuits in which I used the weatherpak connectors that you need the special dies for also.
Look at the terminal ends in your kit. You will notice that they have two separate crimping points. One is for the stripped portion of the wire and the other is for the wire/insulation. The dies in the set are different gauges to properly crimp each wire/terminal. If you use plain old crimpers you may not be able to get the wires in the connectors or will have to fight to get them in.
Well worth the extra $$.

Be careful on some of the flat spade type connectors in the kit. They have the guide/locks in the side and the crimper is a little wide for them. They work just need to make sure it clears the side before crimping. There is also a ratchet release lever on the crimpers in case you want to release them.

How good is the AAW kit? I may install one in somebodies first gen. I like to know before we purchase the kit.

The kit is real nice. The instuctions are easy to follow and they give you everything that you need to install. There are extra connections for options that you may have (electric fuel pump, power seats, etc). Each part of the kit is individually labeled with instructions in each bag. I would recommend it. Rock Auto is where I found it cheapest and was able to use the 5% extra discount, shipping was not that bad as well.

Not to hog the thread.. But I was really impressed with it. The price is good also. All wires are labeled and the schematics are really good. They even give you extra terminals to practice with.

I am about 80% done installing the kit, it's going in real slick. I guess the real test will be when I put power to it though.

Mike, the AAW was a cakewalk to install and is all wrapped up. It could be done in a weekend if you hit it hard. Follow the directions, take your time, and use the correct crimpers. I was able to fire this thing up a couple week ago, still have a few things to complete before driving it for the first time
