70 AMX - almost yard art status

Engine is no longer a collection of mismatched parts and is together.

The guy building the motor ended doing an excellent job.
Just need to figure out how to get it home (might need to figure out where home is too)

I'd have to buy a jacket then...kind of a deal breaker.

& it's really strange having someone build an engine for me.
I shipped the BMW off because I'm lazy.
Had this engine built for me because he's an expert on AMC and I figured would do a better job than me.

Still think he did a better job than I could have...but as I sit here on the couch, the lazy thought keeps coming up!

Haven't got much time to do much on the car with the new job, moving and all the other bs adulting kinda stuff.
Did make it a roller again. Motor is ready but sitting in MI.

Figured I'd ship the engine once I close on a house and slap it together...sometime, then got a call from the guy tuning another car (also in MI) and it's ready (only a couple months late). Not sure how I'm getting all this down to San Antonio now...

Got a call from a buddy saying he stole my truck and trailer and is headed north.
Cool, problem solved.

Well, almost! Forking wheel bearing on the trailer came apart just north of Indy. 12 degrees, snow and a broke trailer.
FORK!!! FORK!!! FORK!!!

Trailer should be back together tomorrow. Sucks more for my buddy. He's camped out it a Holiday Inn Express.

Not much progress between moving, work, health issues and my K3500 deciding to be difficult.

The new detached garage that it's in isn't set up for shit. Was supposed to be 24X22...actually measures 21X19!!! He had a 67 Camaro and a bunch of junk in it when I looked at the place & I never measured anything...oops!!!

Also, they only ran 1 20A line to the garage. They spent the money to trench through all the rock down here and then cheaped out on the rest. Hoping I can use the crap that is there to pull 2/0 100A service to a fuse panel.

The PO also decided to paint a 65 Mustang fastback in the garage sometime between the offer and closing. Seems if you sell your place and want to take up painting, you can save a few bucks by not putting any plastic on the floors or walls. He did use a nice blue though. Thankfully the walls hadn't been finished and what was added was junk, so I had planned on coating the floors and copying @AgDieseler 's garage some (except there will be aggie propaganda on the wall...sorry David, got a T'sipper here).

Once the electrical, floors & walls are complete, I'll get my tools moved down here.

Dis learned something through all this...never should buy a house after 6 months in an extended stay hotel. Desperation sets in. House and garages aren't quite what I remember when I made the offer. Live & learn.

The area is great though. Love the hill country. Once I get some time, lots of outdoors stuff to do, plus the drag strip is less than 30 minutes away!!! Also there's rumors that there is some pretty good wheeling close by. :saweet::saweet::saweet:
Oh, well...live & learn.

The good news is that I finally have the car, motor and transmission in the same garage (using it as a cabinet now days, interior and truck are loaded with parts). Small victories are important.

Did get one thing accomplished this week...unpacked some stuff and found my CK5 calendar and got it a new home (again, it's the small victories)

Also plan on putting a 40X60 shop out back sometime in 2020. Can get my lift set up and most of my junk in one spot. Can't wait (giant victory if this works out!!!)

Really good junk gets built in small garages. Keep at it, finding any way you can to work on it (or the space prep) each day, even if that’s only for an hour.

It looks like you’re close to having a runner.

Finish as much as you can now. I made the mistake of moving in all my junk, now I am stuck moving it around to finish the garage. I even had it organized and now it looks like a bomb went off.
Also I bought a few lots next to mine to put up a shop. Now, it looks like my dickweed neighbor ( that doesn't even live close to me) called the county and they are calling it wetlands. :angry1: so now I get to fight with the county about that. So my 60x40 is on hold. With no idea when I'll come to a resolution.

Anyway making progress is good. Keep at it. Trade off those junk gmt400s and you might get more done.;)

I have a love/hate relationship with my gmt400's. Can't stand the looks of any of the newer GM trucks even though they are better vehicles. With that said, I just bought an 05 CC Dually with Duramax as a backup.

As far as the garage goes. The size isn't that big of a deal. A couple AMX's fit just fine. I'd be in trouble if hoarded Impalas or Galaxy's.

The big challenge is not having tools down here. A buddy is going to coat both garages and the patio at the same time so I'm trying to keep as little stuff here as possible because only so much will fit in the drive way while the marathon coating job is going on. He generally cuts me a hell of a deal, just have to fit things into a time when his business slows...unfortunately for me, business is booming.

& close to almost having a runner...thanks, I needed a good laugh.

I know you feel the same about them as I do. But I'm to cheap to buy anything else. No monies and I don't like loans.

Sucks about the wetland shit...neighbors can be a pain.
Good luck!

I'm a bit worried about one of mine too. We are in an unincorporated area with no HOA but have weird deed restrictions. So the only thing they can due is sue, but they would have to pay for it out of there own pocket hopefully making that cost prohibitive. Finger crossed.

Deed restriction state that each lot can have only 2 buildings, 1 a house and the other can be a guest house or up to a 4 car garage with guest living quarters.

Nice thing is they state that a building can connected by a corridor that doesn't have to be roofed or fully enclosed? A couple decorative cedar beams between the detached garage and house and I'm back a single biding on the property.

Funny thing is the only restriction on the second building regarding size is it can not be taller than the house. The house is a 2 story with a ridiculously steep pitched roof (guess they were worried about a blizzard hitting south TX???) Works for me, looks like the shop will have 20' walls!!!

I'm with you...all my clunkers are paid for and all future purchases will be cash only. Not doing anymore car payments.

As for no monies...welcome to fatherhood!!! How is the little monster doing?

Lol. She's great actually..she really only has a few "moments" a week. Pretty laid back really. Just adjusting to a new set income. I used to a job with available OT, I don't have that now and daycare Costs.
Otherwise I am picking away at chevelle parts. And some parts for the dump truck. Which has to run by winter....

@beags86
Glad to hear all's well.
She's probably just saving the moments for her teenage years...you know, some sort of payback thing!

Also like the "by winter plan" It's perfect since we don't really partake in that season. :woot:

Yeah yeah yeah, you don't even know what your missing, plowing snow is actually fun. Goal is to have dumpy back up and running with @shady s old truck cab. Won't paint it right away so I can have a snowbee.

Hey @beags86 , here's a bit of an update.
Dragged the out the engine for the heap to start test fitting all the new parts. The headers actually fit!!!
Ran into 2 problems, the water pump pulley doesn't line up now and the no cut, TKO600 from SST isn't cooperating at all.

Water pump pulley should just be a pulley swap and no big deal.
The transmission on the other hand... :flipoff10:

Cut the firewall to fit the no cut brackets for the hydraulic clutch, also had to modify the brackets some.
Replaced all the hardware that was too short.
Ordered another pilot bearing without a witness mark (that may have been my fault).
Also noticed that the scatter shield was out of date when they sent it.

Hope to have it in the car by the end of the year...maybe???
Just need to find a decent amperage alternator and decide what to do for a carb.

Maybe Santa will bring it a pro flo 4!

20191220_190314.jpg

Santa would be wise to bring that pro flo. They seem to work much better than some of the others IMO

Have you spoke with @folkenheath ? He is a retailer for them

The Pro Flo4 looks like it was well engineered, especially the intake for the AMC.
The electronics look adequate and it uses GM sensors/injectors which is a plus.
The only downside is it wont control an electronic transmission. Not an issue for this car since its a manual but I have a Javelin that I won't to trow together out of spare parts (mild 401 & 4l60e) to make a dd out of and would like to have similar systems.

Thinking of using a GM 411 pcm & sensors and the induction from the pro flow 4 and see what I can come up with.
