71 Chevelle SS clone - 8.1L Swap

Update on the Chevelle front:

Added this one to my fleet today! 71 with a 454 / 4 speed. SS clone. Body is in great condition - One small door ding but no rust issues anywhere. PO fully rebuilt the suspension and brakes plus an additional 6K in work to get it through an out of province inspection earlier this summer. Got it for a rock solid price too!

It's funny, this is my favorite body style for the chevelle, I thought you were going for the previous generation.
My neighbor had a 72 real ss green with the white stripes.
 
I would have been happy with a 70 as well, but I've always had a soft spot for the 71/72 with single headlights. I prefer the square tail lights of the 70 and may consider trying to swap an older rear bumper on sometime to create my abomination haha!

$6k to get a 48 year old car through an OOP is pretty decent. I put a 94 Blazer through about 5 years ago and spent a similar amount. The Blazer was in pretty good shape as well - They just really nitpick stuff. The PO of this car had to replace some cracked light cracked lenses, replace the engine bay wiring, fix a bunch of suspension stuff, new brakes, new tires, new windshield and wipers, fix the fuel gauge, heater fan resistor and some other small stuff to get it to pass.
 
We put Deb's 2002 Durango through the OOP and spent $200 for the inspection itself. Granted it's not 48 years old, and we try to keep it in decent shape but it wasn't perfect either. My biggest issue with the OOP inspection is the super nitpicky bullshit...and the attitude of the inspectors regarding the nitpicky stuff. I feel a vehicle should only have to be as good as what is legally on the road here already, and you and I know the quality standards of that.

Frankly I wouldn't roll into an OOP without already having replaced the tires, windshield, brakes and at least gone through the suspension, lighting, etc. AKA making the car functionally safe anyways.

At any rate, the car is beautiful...congrats!! :saweet: I hope the weather holds out long enough to get a little driving/cruising/hooning time in before the snow flies! Every Thursday at the A&W/Petro-Can on Manning they have a cruise night if you're into that sort of thing.

Oh, it's the rear that I like better, I would do the opposite and put dual headlights on a 71-72 and keep the dual round taillight

Unfortunately, this car is getting fire / theft coverage and going into storage for the winter. I'll bust it out next spring. I do not have any time to mess around with it or drive it right now, my whole life is consumed with work and baby at the moment. My wife was grumpy with me over buying the car. But not because of the money spent. She was grumpy because I got to leave the house and go do something non-kid related for a couple hours and fulfill a long time dream while she was stuck at home with the baby. Definitely put a damper on things for me :( She definitely gets a worse dose of kids becuase she has to feed every couple hours around the clock, but man she sure took the wind out of my sails with that last night.

It's ok it will pass.
The first year after the birth is tough and they are very sensitive and then things smooth out.
Once the kid starts to sleep more than a couple of hours and she can rest she will be the lovely understanding wife she was.
Hopefully it won't be like my daughter she stayed on the 2 hour schedule round the clock for 2 years :yikes:
 
Things will settle down Russ...

For whatever it's worth Deb and I decided early not to let anyone else's ideas stop us from taking our baby everywhere. At two months we started taking Jess with us to restaurants, grocery shopping, everywhere and anywhere. The big thing it did for us was allow us to get better at figuring out what we really needed to bring and get it dialed in so that going out wasn't so much of a chore. We just kinda refused to be in "Baby Jail". Sure kept us from going stir crazy...

Friction and some resentment is pretty normal, especially during "Baby jail".
 
Like was said above things will settle down and get better, baby’s/ kids change everything. We also traveled with are daughter at a young age , she was 3 months when we went cross country to Boston. Biggest thing is to realize your are both stressed at times . Don’t bottle it up or take it out on each other.try to give each other respect and brakes from the baby.
 
We did everything together for the first 2 years and we didn't stop doing things like hiking, traveling, even dining out, and we even went ball room dancing.
You forget a few things the next time you don't.
And people wherever you go love seing kids, not toddlers, but infants.
 
Pamper the shit out of her right now and sneak your stuff in when you can. Don't want to have a grouchy wife during this time when things are already super stressful and difficult for her anyway. My wife did pretty good cuz we both work together and we did formula on all our kids so we took turns getting up for feedings. My third one she did get some post par-tum depression stuff going on but we made it through. Sweet Chevelle though. Big block and a four speed and I love the color.

Nicely done Russ! If you get her used to being out and about with you guys she'll be a much better behaved child out in public when she is a toddler. Just say no to "Baby Jail"!

When ours were little we often went for a drive, because they tended to sleep best in the car/van/K5. Another good excuse to get out of the house.

This. "Baby Jail" just adds useless stress. Get out and do things, that's the only way you'll figure out how to make things work. Some of you guys know our story. Baby Campy was at a large open-air music festival at 3 days old and we started a 4000-mile road trip at 9 days of age. She doubled her age on that trip. Not every baby is ready to roll at 3 days of age, but I say get them started on life as young as possible. :thumb:
