'71 k5 "Cowboy Cadillac" LM7 swap... Over the hill

Ok, starting to go bat **** trying to figure out the best route for an injection friendly tank?

Would like to budget it at about $500 with stock reliability(internal pump) and good high angle fuel control.

Option A) Custom steel baffled tank with internal pump, vette filter/regulator (Pickup some ground clearance and an easy bolt on)

Option B) Stock tank modified to use an F-body ls1 pump (These have built in fuel baffle and regulator. Trying to find dimensions to see if this will fit my tank?)

Option C) Stock tank with modified stock pickup. Chop the metal pickup tube as high as I can. Install rubber hose with fuel sock on the end. (Rubber pickup hose will slosh around and follow the fuel) Drill out the cap for a return line and use an inline fuel pump, vette filter/regulator (Maybe an intank can be done?)

Option D) use a 87+ TBI tank. (This seems like the most work? Dumpster dive for a tank, need to modify the filler and pickup AND figure out how to mount the tank)

Its pretty expensive and I dont know if the blazer and suburban have the same tank but Earlyclassic.com has a 27 gallon custom steel tank for the burb that will except a internal pump they have it listed at 899:doah:

I'm not sweatin the 100 bucks but I've read about alot of people having problems with the filler necks on the repro tanks. Plus I would need to figure out how to hang it. I was looking for quick and easy i guess. Its just that if im going to be putting any "effort" into this I think it might be better spent on a custom tank but wanted to spend coin on it later if I could.

Couldn't find that earlyclassic tank?

Also, I found a set of 04 z06 and 04 gto exhaust manifolds do one of you know which will fit better? Id like to keep the frame rails untouched.

I think they were off a c5 but not sure they were a two bolt flange and were kinda a center dump. Though i had a pic off both sides but only the passanger side.

So the c5 vette ones are the way to go? Man, So many people would really like to know that bit of info! Everyone has been having to grind their frames cause no one knows what will work!

I think those two bolts are actually c6 manifolds?

Btw tex wish I still lived in Houston so I could buy you some beers.

Your right did some research they are c6 non zo6 manifolds found one more pic from the top dont know why there all from the right side I guess it was close and the drivers side had plenty of room.
Dont worry about it the way I see it is if I spread my knowledge then others will help me.

Trailblazer SS manifolds work without any trimming and dump to the rear. They worked great on my 72 Jimmy 5.3/4L60/NP205 swap I finished a few months ago.

Hmm I found a set of trailblazer mani's as well but they look really similar to the stock 05 lm7 ones I have here? Maybe just my eyes? Edit: Nevermind.. totally different, yours hug the block alot more.

This is prob. a stupid question but whats your thoughts on these C5 z06 deals? Do you think they may work? They seem to come down in the same spot as the C6 but the flange dumps out lower.. maybe enough for the flange to pass the rail?

The reason I'm hung up on these is because they are "supposed" to flow REALLY well.. like in the same ballpark as a good tubular manifold. Check pics.. not bad at all for cast pieces.

Oh and I got this today  looks like the k5 wont have OD for a bit longer than expected... old motor should pay for it and hopefully with the right gears mpg wont be too bad.

On the brighter side I got the correct TAC, harness and pedal I need as well as these motor mount adapter plates from TPI parts. (Courtesy of "The Aliens" write up) They seem nice although $$ for what they are. Because I don't have a shop to play in I figure the 1" forward/back/stock mounting offsets will hopefully help if any clearance issues pop up.

haha Yea, I spoiled myself to another piece of plywood today!

Would have had the drive train out but I stripped an exhaust bolt and I don't have a sawzall. Flex plate adapter and bolts should be here Thursday. I'll spray the firewall tomorrow and hope to have the new setup bolted in by friday/sat.

Found this in my trucks bed. Thought it was pretty interested considering I have NO idea where it came from haha

PS

This is a really dumb question but how the heck do you get the windshield wiper arms off to remove the cowl?

Cool deer hoof..:waytogo:

The wiper arms should have a little metal tab that goes over a groove on the drive post. Pry that out with a small screwdriver or pick tool, and pull the arm straight away from the post. This may be a little difficult as the wiper arm has a spring in it to provide tension on the wiper blade/windshield contact point.
